My WRT54GS has worked fine with Speedboost on so there is some hope.

Me too.  We had to disable the speedboost on the Netgear router for it to play nice with the SB, but not the Linksys.

On a semi-related topic, does anyone have any familiarity with the D-Link ANT24-0700 antenna booster?  It says it works with all b/g wireless routers.  It's now $18.46 ($38.46 less $20 mail rebate) at buy.com:
