Interest in a newletter?
« on: 3 Feb 2006, 04:33 pm »
Hi all:

We have been toying with the idea of creating a newsletter that has information about AVA products.  The newsletter would provide a bit more detail on the equipment, some looks at the decision making process we go through, and some operational tips.  We may also give a sneak peek or two at future products.

Because the vast majority of our customers are general consumers, the newsletter will not be a tech journal where we get into overly technical topics such as circuit analysis.

If we go ahead with the idea we would distribute the newsletter on our Web site in a downloadable PDF file.  At this point there is no set schedule for releases.  The schedule depends on the other workload and ideas for topics.

Let me know what you think of the idea.

Thanks!

Larry

Sounds like a good idea to me. :)

It might also be useful to make some threads here sticky (and maybe locked too) so that things like product announcements will stay at the top where people can easily find them. FAQs would also be useful and would save you and Frank some work.

Hi:

Actually the newsletter will not be too much like Audio Basics.  In many of the AB issues Frank and his lead engineer included some pretty technical content.  While there "may" be some technical topics from time to time, the focus of the newsletter will be to the non-tech user.

Thanks for you feedback!

Even though I glossed over the super-techie parts of Audio Basics, I found a wealth of valuable writing in there. I'd love to read what you have to say these days, Frank!

An excellent idea.  I would read it and pass it along.  It'd provide a great framework for passing along the company's values.  I look forward to it.

I've been waiting for Audio Basics to be revived for years. I have all the originals in binders. They are a refreshing read despite their age.
I have no reason to believe that whatever you decide to commit to text wouldn't be interesting at the very least, if not informative.
Besides, I have never come across anyone who could cut up the popular audiophlake community the way Frank can. It's about the Music, Phool! Not the wires!!
Please please please!!

I'm in!! I miss the regular AB releases. Maybe you could take suggestions from some of us here as to the content, both tech and non-tech alike. Keep everyone involved!

It depends.  If a newsletter is basically a marketing brochure announcing new and upgraded products, I'm not much interested.  Better to just update the website.  However, I would be very interested in a newsletter that went beyond "what's new in the AVA stable" and provided useful information and insight.  I recognize that Audio Basics was labour intensive.  And I also understand that, to a large extent AVA has moved beyond giving helpful advice on building new circuits for, eg, Dyna and Hafler stuff.  On the other hand, there was an element of AB that was incredibly useful for the pragmatic audiophile - simple tweaks, user-doable upgrades to AVA products (eg new op amps, etc.), experiences with non-AVA products, random natterings on the state of hifi, etc.  I also miss hearing about the comings and goings at AVA.  So if the newsletter is something closer to "Audio Basics Lite" I would be very interested.

Zheeeem put it very well.  I subscribed to AB and bought all the back issues I'd missed at one point.  I learned a tremendous amount from that newsletter, acquired the "right" AVA equipment for me, and have rewired crossovers in my B&W 801's thanks to Frank amd AB.  Count me in!

I'm all for it, Larry/Frank - the more non-technical the better, por moi  :)

Not that I want to dissuade you from doing it.....but isn't the purpose of an Audio Circle circle the means to get your message out?

It just seems like duplicative work and effort to have both - perhaps I'm not understanding all the ramifications and additional benefits for expressing your business in an Audio Basics II, tho.

Hi:

This forum is a good tool to distribute the message; however, there are many people who don't know this forum exists.  Our Web site is the main information portal for us, so having a newsletter there makes sense.

As for updating the Web site: We understand that the Web site is way out of date.  Frank is working with our Web master to refresh the site.  The first task was to take pictures of the new products once we had the cosmetic changes in place (and all of the parts from the vendors - faceplates, chassis, knobs, etc.).  He is now working on updating and creating new content/pages.  Over the next several weeks you will see the site updated with the new products.

Thanks

Thanks everyone for the feedback on the newsletter idea!

I finished the first (trial) issue of the newsletter, and Frank has given his FVA (sign off) on the focus and content.  As stated earlier, the newsletter will not be a technical publication like Audio Basics was; rather, it will be geared toward product information.  So to answer one of the questions, yes this is more of a marketing and information publication.  The intention is to give a more personal and inside look at AVA, and the products.  I understand that there are people who would like more information geared toward the electronic hobbyist, but the vast majority of our customers do not fall into the technical category.

Thanks again!

Larry
