Crimp connector question from newbie.
« on: 30 Jan 2006, 03:20 am »
Hello!  I am building a cornet II and I'm on the home stretch.  I am more overbudget than a government project, but enjoying the process too much for any true complaining.  I have been trying to crip on the quick connect fittings to the transformer wiring.  Do I crimp through the pink plastic body?  Does anyone have a recomendation for a good crimping tool they have used or method that works well?  I cannot get a good crimp with regular pliers and am having trouble getting the fittings to hold onto the wiring.  Sorry for such a lame post.  This project would have been impossible for me without this forum and help from contributors.  Peace.  Robert

Yes, Robert.  You crimp right over the plastic.  Just be careful not to rip thru the plastic insulation.  I think you need a crimping tool, unless someone else knows a particular type of pliers that will provide enough oomph.  I used a crimping tool and had no difficulty.  These are inexpensive and common, something you might also try to borrow.  How did the "solder bridge" work for you?

Thanks for the response! It looks like I need to make a trip to the store to get a crimp tool. I can only make the leads going to the power inlet switch right now.  I am still waiting for the heatsinks from DigiKey that I ordered in December.  I will use the solder bridge to attach them to the board when they come in.  Otherwise it is ready to go.  I listen to vinyl about 80 percent of the time and look forward to hooking this baby up.  Peace.  Robert

I, too am waiting for the heatsinks from Digikey to finish the Clarinet.  They gave me a ship date of Feb 13.  I listen to vinyl 98% of the time.  I predict you will be thoroughly impressed with the Cornet2.  I was, am and will be.  As far as I know, there's not a single bad word out there!!  Post your impressions after break-in.
