Dear Scholars of Music (this is a play on words, as you shall see)

This is an unusual request and the story starts here......

Some years ago I was at a friend's place and he played a CD of the Tallis Scholars, it was, as he described it, celestial.

The story he told me was amazing, to say the least.  The recording was of a piece of religious music from the Renaissance and was kept by the Pope of the day and witheld (supposedly) from the public as it was feared that common people would be so overcome by its beauty that it would divert them from worship. :o

Mozart heard of this and went to Rome to listen to it, and, being the musical genius that he was, was able to remember the entire score and then transcribed it after hearing it just the once............. and the cat was now out of the bag.

Does anyone know of this piece of music?  Is the story even true?  :?

Many thanks,

Bluesky

So the story is true..........

I will now get the CD to listen again to this "celestial" music.
