Didn't see these in a theater, but could not watch more than a couple of minutes on DVD

Satyricon - Fellini
Titus - starring Anthony Hopkins
genre: unbearable surrealistic theatrical movies

Many other less notables that I caould not watch.

Jackie Brown has a hilarious scene with Robert DeNiro and Bridget Fonda. He is just out of prison and she tries to seduce him while her ex-con boyfriend is out. She succeeds, but it doesn't turn out quite the way she expected.

I like Fight Club as well as Pulp Fiction. They are good movies. The writing quality in Pulp Fiction, the uniqueness of people you have never known in a life unlike your own, is very rare in any movies.

I am not a fan of Kill Bill movies. However there is nothing to make either of them a bad movie, just not my taste. I have not seen Jackie Brown but I would venture to say I bet it is good. If you are not into the obscure try True Romance directors cut.

Bad movies..... Sci-Fi channel's teridactle movie, the one with giant insects, Dog Soldiers, Mosquito, you name it.... They have the worst movies there are bar none. They are like soft core porn with no porn.

You know I think there is a movie about 50 cent coming out...... We may have a new candidate. You are not tuff for getting shot nine times, you are stupid.

I almost forgot…. Acting like you do not like a good movie because of the popularity is so high school. If some thing is popular it would be for a reason.

The worst movies of all time are most likely low-budget affairs that few people have ever seen.  Most of the films mentioned so far I don't think qualify as truly bad.  You wouldn't argue about them if they bored you to death.  If you watched the whole thing it couldn't be all that bad.  I think there has to be more objective degree of "badness" from a technical standpoint in order for a movie to qualify.  People said "Battlefield Earth" was so horrible, but when I finally saw it I could see why it upset people, but it wasn't technically bad.  Wasn't any worse than the stuff they use on MST3K.

I dunno, it just seems like people are arguing about annoyance and disappointment in mostly "good" movies and not true disasters.  Unfortunately I can't come up with one myself.  I saw "You Got Served" which was pretty awful, but I wouldn't call it the worst of all time.  "Plan 9" is about the closest I guess - I couldn't watch it, it wasn't even campy-bad-good-kitschy, just plain 'ol unwatchable.

Nathan, I agree...there are tons of pretty awful movies out there that no one ever sees.  Maybe the focus of this thread should be "Worst Movies of all time to be seen nationally in theaters".

Madonna's "Next Best Thing" and Bo Derek's "Bolero" still get my vote... :D

The fighting about Fight Club and the related posts have been sent to Fight Club.

If you all want to continue that fight, do it there and leave all of that out of this circle.

I agree with Nathan as well - there's probably little question that anything truly in contention for 'worst ever' didn't get enough exposure to become interesting. It's probably some variation on 'Godzilla meets the Slime Thing' or something.  Or maybe a soft-core effort that got re-edited to remove the 'good bits' so all you are left with is the plotting and dialog.

The only two I can think of that I've seen that were truly bad were
- Attack of the Killer Tomatoes
- Killer Klownz from Outer Space (and even this had some Kampy attraction)

I might add Rocky Horror Picture Show  to that list, but it got revived into the campy so-bad-its-good category so it's out (and has a killer soundtrack).

My original Dark City post got canned, but it definately is a good movie that went wrong rather than a truly bad movie - if there wasn't so much to like about it, then it wouldn't generate such a strong reaction.

Nathan and Phil, trust me one this one. Freddy Got Fingered has to be one of the worst movies of all time, and I am very accepting of bad movies. Many movies that others can't stand, I can enjoy. But FGF was an absolute atrocity of film making. He beats off a horse! A real live horse! An elaphant too! He licks a broken bone! You must reserve joudgement on the worst movie of all time until you've seen this one! It will at least make it into your top five. If you've seen it, and still don't think it's number one, I really have to see what is.

Lordcloud,

See, I wouldn't go for Freddy Got Fingered only because its Tom Green, and as a vehicle for his outrageousness, it's dead-on.  In the genre of outrageous comedy, FGF is there to out-outrage everyone, and by your reaction, it succeeds.  In the films I mentioned, these are categorized as "drama" or "dramatic comedy", but they just flat-out suck.

In "Next Best Thing", Madonna's peformance is horrible.  She goes from American accent to British accent every other scene...I think the filmmakers realized that Madonna was so bad that they ended up editing the film to focus on the gay father of her child instead of her...the original script was obviously not about him, so the film ends up being a bunch of side-scenes stiched together hoping to make it interesting.

In "Bolero", this is seriously just a soft-core porn movie from the seventies, but the scene where George Kennedy gets "romantic" has scarred me forever... :bawl:

Phil, I see your point. But just trust me on this one, just see this movie so you can fully understand what I am talking about. It leaves you with a feeling that I just can't put into words. I'll have to see Bolero.

An exception to this was the Bill Cosby movie "Leornard Part VI".  Thankfully, there was never a "Part VII".  Cosby won the Golden Raspberry award and was so pissed that he sued to force them actually give him a Golden Raspberry!

made me pretty sick. It stared Ellen DeGeneres (before she came out), as she marries Bill Pullman and finds out that he isn't Mr. Right.

Soon thereafter she came out. Hmmmmm...

I work with one of the producers; funny, he prefers not to discuss this movie....

Oh...another incredibly bad one was "The Sweetest Thing" with Cameron Diaz and Christina Applegate.  Not quite as bad as my other two, because there's something bizarrely entertaining watching Cameron Diaz getting poked in the eye by a stranger's weener, but that scene in itself gives you an indication of the level of quality of this movie...

I also thought Tomb Raider was pretty bad. I did enjoy the Clearaudio Master Reference though.

There's a John Travolta movie in which he plays an alien that definitely belongs in this thread. It has the blond haired actor with the crooked nose playing a human prisoner of the alien race. It was truly awful. Can anyone remember the name of this stinker?

I'd say that one of the qualifications has to be that the movie must take itself seriously in order to be considered truly bad.  That is what the writers from MST3k used as one of their qualifications for instance.  The movie had to be pretentious enough or try to deliver a serious "message" to the viewer.  The failure to do so was what made it such a stinker.  I haven't seen "Freddy Got Fingered" but I'm familiar with Tom Green's modus operandi which is basically being outrageous and disgusting.  So I don't think that really makes it a bad movie.  Bad taste for sure, but that seems to be the whole goal.  A really bad movie has to think it's a great movie in order to deserve our condemnation.  If there's any tongue-in-cheek, winking at the viewer type of stuff going on I don't think that counts.

Jermmd - yep, that's "Battlefield Earth".

Battlefield Earth was ridiculous on too many levels.

I am sorry but how did they take back the planet with some older F16's or some thing, and yet they could not fight off any of the original invasion?

How did the "Aliens" never discover the humans could speak? They are so much more advanced you would think they might notice, intercept transmission of ANY THING including satelight TV etc.....

Wow I am so glad I remmeber just about nothing in that movie.

Now I remember...this one takes the cake: The Star Wars Holiday Special.  Broadcast only one time back in the 70s.  I snagged a shitty video dub of it via Bittorrent.  Oh my gawd...  You owe it to yourself to see it at least once, although it is quite painful.  Bests anything else out there in sheer badness!
