Need some recomendations
« on: 16 Jan 2006, 06:13 pm »
I have been using a panasonic Bolder modified XR-45 for my two channel applications for quite some time, and genrally have been extremely pleased with the results.  However, one of the channels is now doing a snap crackle pop, and since there is no way of getting parts for the unit, I am most likely going to have to replace it in the near future.  I was wondering what upgrade path I should look into.  I really liked the detail I am getting from the Panny, and everything I own is digital, so seperates are a possibility though I would really like to find something with a digital input, ala the TACT M2150, if possible.  Any reccomendations as to what I should look into?  I will have to do this blindly, as auditoning items in Iowa is nearly impossible.  I would prefer to buy used.  Let's say my budget would be roughly $2500 or so.

Thanks!

D~

The snap, crackle, pop in my HK receiver was a blown diode, not hard for a service tech to find and fix, and cost a lot less than $2500.

Do you need multi-channel?

I want to upgrade anyway, it's about that time after a year and a half    No, I have zero interest in multichannel applications until I move to a bigger place.

Thanks!

For 2500, I'd see if you can find a 2150 that's been modified by Anthony Aberdeen.  I've got the s2150 now and am considering getting it modified.  However, I enjoy it in stock form as well.

Maybe later you can get the 2.0 or 2.2 preamp and do room correction... I love the sound of my system.  It's neutral, images very well and presents music as a 'musical experience'... :)

Oh, and PM me if you'd like to sell the Panny fairly cheap... I need a new HT receiver.

Thanks,
Carl
