Maxiumum length of IC to use? source->preamp->amp
« on: 9 Jan 2006, 11:15 pm »
Hey guys,

Im trying to find out what is the max amount of length I can use between source and preamp, and then preamp and amp.

I know shorter is best, but for my situation I cant do this.

it will be ....

Zhalou 1.3 Dac (fully modded) --> Odyssey Etesian --> Odyssey Stratos Plus

for greater then 2 meter do you notice signal degredation?

BTW I will be using Grover UR6 cables! (they are sweet!)

Thanks for the help!

Shorter is better, and if you have the option to go "Balanced" (or XLR) terminations, that might offer benefits with longer runs.

More important might be that they cross other cables, especially power and speaker cables at "right angles" when possible.

I read somewhere that the ideal ratio of interconnects to speaker cables is 1:3.

After 2 meters, I'd start wondering about using an active versus your passive pre-amp.
