Fostex FE166E cabinets are almost finished

Hey Guys,

Thought I'd post a few pics of my cabinets I'm building for my Fostex FE166E's before their sealed till the end of time. I'm almost done, just have to braid my cat5 cable, glue the lids on, glue on a couple more trim pieces (actually I did this today), some more sanding and a couple or three coats of tung oil. There made from two layers of 3/4" birch ply and about a quart of titebond II, heavy as @#$!

Scott, here's what I did about the binding posts. I decided no binding post would be the best but I wanted to be able to disconnect the speakers. So I drilled a hole in the back of the cabinet and I'll solder a copper ring terminal to the cat5 bend the terminal 90 degrees so the ring is flush to the cabinet and the wire crimp area will fit through the hole in the cabinet. I drilled a blind hole through the ring and inserted a #10 brass threaded insert. The cat5 speaker cable will have another copper ring terminal screwed directly to the ring terminal on the cabinet. About as close as a direct connection as you can get I think and cost about 5 bucks for both boxes. I just used a brass screw and washer for now but I think I'll get me some copper bar stock and make some cool finger screws.

Here are the pics

Beautiful job Mark !

Can you make me a pair of Klipshorns ?  Just kidding, but I would
like to have a couple of Karlson K15 cabinets made. Are you interested?
       Great work!

Great idea! That way you have direct contact without using the brass screw or a brass binding post as a conductor. Thats even better than using a big thick copper threaded rod. I'll have to remember that one for future speaker projects.

Nice job on the cabinet BTW. I can see who the real woodworker is around here

Thanks guys,

I can't wait to get-r-done!

I received my CD-PRO2 kit saturday. This puppy is just too cool!

Willie, I can make those Karlson boxes for ya but It'll be a few months. I'm working on my house to get it ready to sell in the spring, hopefully. I squeezed the fostex cabinets in since I already had the pieces cut out and justified it by it sure would be easier to move two assembled boxes than 50 pieces of ply. Maybe we could do some tradin. I'd like to have some goodies to build me a 2a3/45/50/52 set amp. I have a 750vct power transx but need outputs, choke, tubes, filament transx and input transx's. You got any of this stuff in your stash?
