A friend of mine gave me a power cord to play with. It belongs to a customer of his and neither of us know who it's made by. It is 6ft long with Hubbells on the ends. It is made up of 3 individually insulated conductors of heavy guage, each conductor is covered in black snake skin. Where the conductors enter the plugs is shrink wrapped with yellow heat shrink. The plug has a label on it with the words Audition, then Power and finally in smaller letters Cryo Enhanced- Speed of Light. Can anyone out there shed some light on this cable and it's approximate value. I haven't had a chance to listen to it yet so I don't know how it stacks up. Thanks. Tim

That would be Virtual Dynamics "Audition" Series power cord.  There were non-cryo and cryo version, so yours must be the later version.  MSRP was supposed to be around $500, but it sold for much less on Agon auctions.  Virtual Dynamics new top-of-the-line "Revelation" Series is making certain reviewers to do double flips, so who knows..

Thanks Jon. Since posting my enquiry I have had a chance to play with it. It has good focus on female vocals, the bass is tight but not lacking and noise floor definately lower. For around that $500 price point it beats the PS Audio Statement by a long way , it is also more open and has better focus that the AQ NRG5. The NRG5 was better than the PS Audio but lost a little in the bass department to the Virtual Dynamics.

Hi JonL,

I had a look at your gallery and i'm wondering who manufactured your speakers?

I also use focal 7inch focal mid/bass drivers in my system with a ribbon tweeter.  Nice combination.

My speakers are a long story.  It started life as a prototype for Quintessence Acoustics, of the Quintessence Stealth fame, with Focal inverted titanium tweeter, 7" Focal midbass, and Dynaudio(Watt/Puppy) woofers.

Since then, it's been gutted out completely, leaving only the 2-3" thick cabinet.  All passive crossover has been redesigned.  Focal Tweeter changed to Aurum Cantus G3 ribbons and woofers replaced and refoamed.  Most significantly, the 7" Focal midbass was changed to 7" Focal pure midrange unit (7K2), which made the most difference IMO.  It's still actively biamped between top and bottom module.  One of a kind and likely the last to go if I ever upgrade my system...

Hi JonL,

I imagine that our speakers may have some sonic similarities.  I use raven 1 ribbon tweeters with 2 x 7 inch 7k4211db's in a mtm configuration.  Excellent highs and nice bass.
