Newb Question

Happy Holidaze to all!!!!!

Ok please pardon my ignorance I'm sure this question has been asked before.

Which, in your humble opinon, would sound better a modded ipod or SB3?
In what league would one place the modded SB3 relative to cd-only players (price/performance consideration).

And finally,Vinnie, how bout extending the SB3 Mod  sale!!    (can the battery upgrade be purchased separately later?)

Maybe a new year's sale????? After those initial orders are filled??????

Sorry just adding up all the christimas bills  :o

Peace to all!!!!!!!!  GREAT FORUM!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Welcome srx04,

I'll take a stab at the SB vs. CDP question.  It depends in part on the cost/size of hard drives needed to store your collection.  But basically I'd venture that SB plus hard drive easily outperforms players at twice the price ($1000 - 2500 for various drive/mod options) plus adds layers of convenience.

Hopefully Vinnie, who would know best, will chime in.

Hi srx04,

Welcome aboard!

Regarding the sound of the modded iPod vs the modded SB, I posted about this following RMAF.  See:
http://www.audiocircle.com/index.php?topic=21954&start=0

Regarding the performance of the modded SB (analog outputs) compared to CD-only players, I have to agree with JLM:

The modded SB will easily hold its own against some expensive gear.

I can't make any promises.  I got hit very hard with orders and while I really enjoy and appreciate the business, I feel like I bit off a little more than I want to chew.  I have so many other things that I want to work on and don't have the time because I am modding SB3s all the time.  I have dreams (maybe nightmares) of SB3s...they are closing in on me... get back SB3s, GET BACK!  :flak:    :duel:

Yes, I'm OK and feel better now that I got that off my chest...back to modding another SB3

Hi srx04,

After hearing the RWA modded SB2 for a few days, I put my Shanling SCDT200, modded by UnderWood Hi-fi at level I, for sale.  As good as the Shanling player, with its upgraded tube and solid state outputs and excellent tweaks such as CD shaving and de-magnetizing, I still prefer the SB2's sound.  And that's a good downsizing, too.
