I have been running jumpers on my RM40's for a long time (Zu WAX jumpers) and as best as I can recall it smoothed things out quite a bit.

Well, i can join the fray i think that weekend if there is room. Right before HE in SF!

Of course, if anyone is free this weekend, an audiophile buddy of mine and I are going to put some electronics through their paces on my now fairly broken in Avantgarde Solos. I have a Wadia 861, that i am comparing direct vs. a Cary 306/SLP98 setup. John, i know you are close, so maybe you would like to stop by?

These aren't your typical horns...truly an amazing speaker. I sold my SEs some time ago, and have been out of the 2 ch thing for awhile. Its good to be back!

I can't do saturday, as i have Matrix tickets

However, Sunday afternoon is definitely free. I live in the Bev Center area...

Yes..some horns are definitely MUCH better than others. So does this mean you prefer the Solos over the SE's with or without any direct A/B's?

That sounds great. Like to meet you and see your set up. We're practically neighbors. I'm probably 4-5 miles away at most.

Also, let me know if you want me to "lug" the 626Rs over. They're still breaking in, but at lower levels in nearfield, they sound pretty impressive.

Without a doubt. When I first auditioned them in NYC, my buddy Jetsons came with me and i don't think either of us thought the SEs compared. Now, admittedly, the Solos aren't cheap...and they aren't "horny" either. In fact, an audiophile friend says the Solos are the horns for hornhaters, and perhpas are the best in some respects in the entire AG line. Coherancy is sooo good on the is speaker, it is spooky. Nothing bothers me more then when i hear a well set up speaker, and can tell drivers/sounds.

I should say, at 2k used, i still think the SEs run circles over everything i have heard.

So I take it you have become a fan of coaxial designs now? Is this the factor you feel they better the rest of the AG line in? Since it appears you have heard the whole line..give us some details..I'm sure others are interested too

What's the retail on the Solos anyways? Thanks!

Brian, I agreed completely with this viewpoint, having auditioned a number of Dynaudio monitors and floorstanders, but the 1.3SE sounds nothing like my past experiences.

When compared to the other speakers I happen to have at the moment, the 1.3SE sounds darker and almost muted, but as you stop comparing and decide to enjoy the music, you begin to realize that the treble is now being presented in the proper pespective with the correct amount of detail and air without exaggeration, but I still haven't ruled out the Response 1SC.

This has no bearing on whether or not the 626R, which is in the same relative class of monitors, but a bit larger, may be even more natural or correct with the new FST tweeter.
