Hi Antman,

If your sub does not have a bypass input that bypasses the sub's internal crossover, then I would set the sub's crossover frequency all the way up to make sure it is "out of the way" of the Denon's crossover.

As far as the input level of the sub, I probably would not set that all the way up (which might introduce more noise & distortion).  I adjust mine to give me the approximate correct loudness with my receiver's sub level at 0dB, then use the receiver's sub level control to fine tune it.

You are correct, setting your L & R to Large would have nothing coming out of the sub in stereo mode, only when playing DVD, DVD-A or SACD that had its own LFE channel.

You said that the Denon showed nothing out of phase, have you physically traced the speaker connections to verify?

So the sub should be set to 150HZ ( it goes from 50 Hz to 150)
The level put about half way - run denon auto set up again to set the sub level.
I have not looked to see if anything is out of phase but I am prity sure I did not cross anything @ set up & if it was the auto set up would have detected it right ?
When I set the crossover on the sub to 150 & set the denons to 250 BOOM The sub realy does a dance - but the denond crossover should be set to 80 HZ right >

Yes, the Denon setup should detect out-of-phase speakers, but a physical check is never a bad idea!

Even though the sub crossover is set to 150Hz, setting the Denon's to 250Hz will give you an increase in boomy midbass, as the crossover is not a "brick wall" filter, and has some kind of "slope" (usually 12, 18 or 24dB per octave).

Yes, 80Hz is the most common setting (and the THX spec).  Some people may set it at a lower frequency, but seldom at a higher frequency than 80Hz unless the speakers have very small drivers.
