I currently own the RX-F10 and I think it's a great little unit.  Has anyone compared the RX-D201 to the F10?

There probably hasn't been a comparison because both units have a tendency to blow up. :x I went through 4 of them--2 of each.

I've got the 201 and have had it a while now.  It has yet to blow up.  :)

Unfortunately I do not have an F10 to compare it to....

What happened, exactly?

I guess this means I shouldn't recommend it to my friends?

Best,

Well, mine hasn't blown, but the fan noise is now unforgivable.

Unfortunate, as, it still sounds pretty dang good for $200.00 new. I was going to buy a 301 for my Dad soon (a little more power and binding posts are on it), but I might re-think that idea now.

It was going to replace separates I installed for him 5 years ago.

Hmmmmmm, bummer guys - if not for the (not too be taken lightly) reliability issue, they are good buys.  Maybe, just maybe a bunch of  'B' stock/JVC reconditioned will appear on the market...in the electronics business, somtimes those are best of all buys as their original problems, whatever they are,  have been fixed on somebody's test bench.

Purchased in June last year and had been in use since then.  Was playing public radio this morning via squeezebox into my Dialogue II dac into the 202.  Bedroom setup, very low volume.  You know, drinking coffee, reading email, listening to NPR doom about the middle east.  My speakers are 4 ohm Alesis mid-field monitors, so I suppose you could blame it on impedance mismatch if you wish.  I had read that the JVC's could handle 4-ohm loads without issue...

A loud "POP" out of the receiver (not the speakers)  like a firecracker and smoke starts coming out the left side.  Unplug power strip and shut down and open the windows.  Swear a few times, check the other components, and call Crutchfield.  I felt the top of the receiver and it was no warmer than usual.

It cost me $27 to ship the thing into Crutchfield[1].   The local authorized JVC repair center (Mission TV in SF) would not take the unit, saying I'd have to send it back to JVC directly.  Luckily Crutchfield offered to take it back.   I feel sorry for anyone having to ship back direct to JVC, because I couldn't even get through their phone system.

[1]This is the thing that bums me out the most.  Every time the thing blows it's gonna cost another $27 bucks to send back.  I wish I could get a credit instead.
