Belkin PF12 power conditioner
« on: 23 Nov 2005, 12:40 am »
These are the first almost top of the line power conditioners I've ever owned. Before I had been using some Radio Shack surge protectors There was nothing wrong with them. They did the job just fine. I got tired of having to reach way in back of my audio racks to disconnect the power cords. I really didn't have a clue as to which power conditioner was the best bang for the buck so I just kept on looking at a bunch of them I found that most of the top grades of power conditioners had about the same specs. One thing I did want was a shelf mounted power conditioner.
The Belkins are shelf mounted and that is what I was looking for. I got a pair of these from thetwistergroup.com and I'm very pleased with them. Belkin is a company that has been around the electric industry for a very, very long time. If they can't get it right then maybe nobody can.

Does the music sound better? I don't think so.
Is the TV picture better. Yes it is somewhat better.

One thing that caught my attention in the past few days is the amps draw when various components are turned on.
As an example the Preamp draws .2 amps
 The tuner draws .1 amp.
 The amps draw .6 amps
The CD player draws .4 amps.
The TV draws a lot. About 1.5 amps

When I turn on track lights that are on the same circuit there is no amp draw. The voltage drops a couple of points. Like from 123+ down to say 119.
So there guys! You have my input on power conditioners. I wish all of you a very happy thanksgiving. Give your loved ones a special hug on thanksgiving because we never know when they will be gone and we can not give them hugs ever again.

Holidays for me are the pitts.

                Cheers

Hey guys:
 It's not the PF12 it's the PF40 I bought.
Sorry about that. Once a dumdum always a dumdum. And I can prove that!
                            Cheers

Charles,

Your posts are much appreciated. Its refreshing to read comments that a given component does NOT provide the best improvement ever.......

You didn't relate where you live and if your present Power Company power is polluted or pristine. Does your power have any noise pollution that a conditioner could address?  Do you note a difference in your system in daytime as opposed to late at night?

Regards,
Paul

Paul:
 I live in Martinez ca.
I really don't know about the power company power being polutted or pristine. I've never heard any power noise pollution.  You are the first person that I know of who has mentioned this. My biggest gripe is that I have to have cable TV to get an audio signal. TV also. Sometimes I want to try and bomb comcast because of the poor signal I get sometimes. I've tried antennas but they don't work. I am surround by hills so the signal goes right over the antenna. Maybe if I get a 100' antenna that'll work.
I do not notice any difference weather I listen during the day or night time. I'll pay more attention to that and if I notice a difference I'll let you know.

                                   Cheers
                                   Charlie

I bought the PF60 from Digitally Unique. It replaced an 8 year old Adcom ACE-515. Subjectively I think it does a better job, but that may be because I want it to.    I live in an older apartment building and I think its worth mentioning that regardless of the power company's quality, the wiring of my building might be acting as an antenna and the PF60 does its job in filtering out that kind of garbage. I do notice the line voltage is higher at night. Weather that is responsible for the perception of a better sounding system, I dont know as I cant play my system loudly at night.
