From what I saw, the external visual difference between:

1. Any VMPS ribbon w/ its grill attached & without CDWG

vs.

2. The exact same speaker as above but minus its grill & with the CDWG attached...(the standard grill is replaced by the CDWG with grill cloth stretched over it).

...is a sum total of zero.

In other words, if both the original grill & the CDWG had the exact same piece of grill cloth stretched over it at the same time, & both were attached to speakers (I just described a theoretical impossible), a naked eye in normal room lighting from 1M away could see no difference.  If you looked super close externally, with a bright light on it, you could probably notice on the front that the normal grill cutout looked like a normal grill cutout, & the CDWG had slim slots for the mid-treble.

Does that help?

From what John posted earlier, it appears he was considering making the CDWG in veneer o rpaint to match the speakers.  I suppose that is totally possible, & will increase cost way way over stretching cloth.  It may look super cool, on the other hand it may have lower WAF, & may draw attention to itself, not always a good thing.......

Will the speaker grills still fit with this option? It seems like it might be difficult to match the veneer on cabinets with African Ebony or Rosewood finishes that wrap to the front.

Much of that is still up in the air.  I think for simplicities sake B, will have the initial CDWG's covered in grill cloth as Jim mentions.

When B, Shirley, and I first discussed it, Brian was going on about all these possibilities to use as a finish.

I do know that the Piano Black RM30 versions we'll have a CES will be absolutley "STUNNING".
