Problem with RX-F10 Digital In

Anyone else had a problem with the Digital Input?  When I originally bought the unit I tried the digital for awhile and it worked fine.  Went to DVD/Multi after that and never went back.  Hooked it up the other day to listen to a DTS 5.1 channel dvd-a with two different players and nothing in the DGT mode.  Cable is fine and both players digital outputs are fine.

Is there maybe a setting that got switched somewhere along the line that muted the DGT mode. I don't have it connected to a monitor but I read briefly about the TV Direct button and how it can screw some of your settings up but couldn't really decipher if anything like that happened.  Read the manual backwards and forwards and haven't found anything that indicates any change that would occur.  Other than that all I can figure is the jack went bad which I would think that would be rare.  Didn't know if anyone out there has had a problem with the digital mode.

Preliminary findings point to a bad board.  Off to JVC it has gone!!  God, I hope they get it back to me in a timely manner and with no more problems then it went with!!!  Hope nobody else experiences this problem.

Well now it's on. I called it!!!   I waited two weeks for my RX-F10s to go to JVC.  Called the shop today that had to send it in to them and he said it came back yesterday, same problem, not fixed and had to send it back to them.  He said they stated No fault found which he said was complete BS.  He verified the problem and said the digital was definitely inop.

I don't want to get ahead of myself here, and I did discuss the whole scenario with the shop.  But, if they think they are going to send me a new RX-201S to replace it to avoid having to delve into it they have another thing coming.  Don't mean to offend but I have heard mucho bad things about this little cheap piece of you know what.  I have heard from several owners that you could cook a sirloin on it and it is as cheap and flimsy as they come.

Any ideas out there as to what course of action I should take if this scenario materializes?  I loved that RX-F10 and had it broken in so nicely and everything was good in my world.  Now, I just have a feeling they are going to try and pull something like this.  Any suggestions would be appreciated.  I want to have all my barrells loaded for this one!!! Above all, I now have two shipping charges I have to pay going back to JVC

Love my two F10's but they are not built like tanks. Mine are both broken in and working flawlessly so I'm crossing my fingers that they keep working. Have heard some newer JVC units and they don't seem to have the F10 magic.

But I could be biased.

I believe there is a manual option to switch from analog to digital.  That is when you select DVD it does not autodetect which input is active.  Could this be the problem?

I had an unrelated problem.  I discovered that my digital scientific atlanta cable box only outputs digital when watching the music channels.  I was trying to use the digital output to feed my JVC to listen to TV and wasn't getting any sound.  This took me a while to figure out.

I had an F10 for a very brief period.  Many months later I bought a D201S.  Based upon my memory, for what that is worth, the D201S sounds as good.  It also doesn't feel like it is built any cheaper to me.

Thanks Horizons and Jeff for the input.  I have heard the 201 just doesn't have the magic as well.  Now Jeff about these manual settings.  I don't have my book with me but as far as I know it is either DVD/DGT or DVD/Multi.  Are these the manual settings you are describing or something else?

Boy if you could elaborate I would appreciate it.  However, the shop bench tested it and concurred with my finding.  Not to say that they weren't missing something also.  Horizons I do love that F10 and it was working flawlessly in DVD/Multi.  However, I wanted to try some DTS 5.1  DVD-Audio discs and then couldn't get the digital to work so I could listen to them.  It had worked before because that's what I was using for awhile when I first got the receiver.

Any further input would sure be appreciated.  Also Jeff, I have heard horrible things about the heat generated from the 201's.  Fires/Smoke etc.  Does it get this hot?  Thanks much for the responses!!!! :D

I can't remember the F10 analog/digital settings.
On the D201 there is a button on the remote labeled Analog/Digital.
Pressing this button causes the display to toggle between
DGTL/Auto
Dolby Digital
DTS
Analog

I toggle between DGTL/Auto and Analog.
DGTL/Auto uses the coaxial spdif connection.
Analog uses the RCA inputs.

I have never tried 5.1 audio.  I only have 2 speakers.

My unit gets a little warm but not hot.
I have not really checked it after a long listening session.
However, I have done a bunch of component swapping to evaluate equipment and whenever I pull the unit out it has only been warm.
