Reason I am asking is because I am considering ditching my $4k bryston sp2 for the avp16 and want to make sure that if I do, Im not making a leap down. This would allow me to upgrade from ref9's to ref9SE's with the left over money...

Can anyone comment on the sound quality/differences between the P8 and the AVP16?  Which would be best for 2 channel?

Also are any of the AVP16's likely to hit Australian shores soon?

P-8 is clean (can be mistaken as bright) and neutral. AVP-16 is smooth but overal not as refine as P-8.
If you're starting from scratch and want a no fuss system that sounded very good to start with, then go with AVP-16 and 2 or 3 amps. I have been listening to 3 channels in my home theater and find that I don't miss the back/surround that much (the long story is that I sold my surround speakers and now waiting to sell my B&W to get 5 S-9 for myself).

If you already have a decent preprocessor or those all-in-one home theater unit and want a good 2 channel system, then go with P-8.

In future years, you can uprade the Ref 8, or you can throw away the AVP 16 and buy our be-all-and-end-all-mother-of-all AVP platform (target 2007).

A customer was asking if there will be new AVP coming in 2007.  We have ongoing R&D and every year or two, there will be new products.  For amplifier, there are only two compoents (well, SE has three) and they are designed to be shared and easily replaced for upgrade. This sets us apart that we offer technology and value protection. For AVP, it is mostly digital circuit with industry standard chipsets. It will be too costly to offer upgrade using Digital Signal Processor (where they can be reprogrammed).  AVP-16 was demonstrated at CEDS 2005 and shipped around September 2006     We are not on the bleeding edge of AVP technology. AVP-16 is positioned as an audiophile AVP.  Currently there is no plan for another AVP before mid 2007.  If there is anything at all, it will likely be near end of 2007.  We might just come up with a HDMI switch with audio decoding to go with AVP-16.

This review (http://www.hometheatersound.com/equipment/nuforce_avp16.htm sumarized AVP-16 very well. Go get a HDMI switch to go with AVP-16 and you'll have a very good sounding home theather system and save a bundle of money (so that you can buy a lot of Ref 9/SE )

We don't publish such information as it could be misterpreted (sure, anyone can open up the AVP16 and post such information online). We optimize the overall system sound. There is a misconception that you if choose the best caps/opamp/DAC etc and you'll ended up with the best sound.

Don't ask us about cables. There are too many out there.
If you're looking at saving money, buy a oxygen free copper cable with good connector and send it for cryogenic treatment.

(2) a DVD player must be connected with the coax input to utilize DTS decoding.

Is this technically necessary?  I like to use optical inputs to eliminate the possibility of ground loops.

Coaxial always provide better sound.  Modern DVD players could support DVD-Audio with 96Khz/24-bit, hence using coaxial gives the highest performance.   As far as ground loop is concerned, the Coaxial is isolated by input transformer (as all coaxial S/PDIF does), so it's a non-issue.

Lip-Sync (Delay)

In my current set up the delay is in 14ms...

What made you "exclude" this feature?  Do you have any good solutions (implemented) if lip-sync/delay is needed?

I'm just about to get one of these units. One concern I do have is the 18" depth, that's bringing back memories of CRT TV's and monitors with the big backend. Anyway future models could be more stand friendly?

Edit: I got this unit last Tuesday, sure isn't 18" deep as the specs say it is. Any reason NuForce why the mis-information on the website? Is more like a standard 12" like your typical smaller components.
