I was on the verge of purchasing this cool new integrated, but I see that unfortunately it has absolutely no extra pre-amp outs to use for a subwoofer connection.    :(

I imagine I could use an RCA splitter from the single set of pre-outs, and sending one pair of line-level RCA's to the subwoofer, and one pair back to the power-amp ins.  Or else, I could try to attach two sets of speaker cables to the 5-way posts, with one pair running to the high-in inputs of a subwoofer and the other pair to the main speakers.

I understand there are advantages and disadvantages to the various methods, but I just don't know what would be the best way to do so with this new Bryston integrated.

I would be especially interested to please hear what James Tanner will advise in this situation.

Please help?  Thanks in advance...

Hi NewBuyer,

Good news - the preouts on the B100 SST are always active (switch in connected position) so just use them to run the sub.

May I ask please, what is the MSRP of the B-100?  Also, does it come with a remote, or does the remote need to be purchased separately (at what cost)?

HI,

$2995 suggested list US - the remote is an extra $500.

I had seen dealers quoting $2695 as the US list. Remote was standard. $400 for the phono option and 1K for the DAC option.  Did something change?

The $2695 was just a 30 day special introduction price.

That seems a bit odd, even un-Bryston like as it came out in press releases as $2695 w/remote (sans DAC and phono).

Is it because the first units didn't include the DAC but the production model changed early on to include the DAC?

So now it is called the "B100SST DAC" for 3K minus remote correct?

Instead of the DAC being optional it is now the remote as well as phono stage? Can you still get it without the DAC for less?

Hi,

Yes it was a little different. We were being pressed to get the B100 out ASAP and we decided to offer it initially at an introductory price with remote included.

Then we asked all the dealers and distributors if they wanted certain features included - EX: DAC -  and the
consensus was NO. Most felt that the customer should be able to purchase only what features they wanted.

So - the Remote the DAC and the Phono all became optional at that point and the new retail price was established.

Well then I feel quite fortunate to have my model with phono and remote for the price.  It is a fantastic sounding piece. Certainly the best sounding integrated I have owned or heard.

Audi-O, what speakers and other gear are you using with your B100?

The only concern my wife and I have is whether the unit really has enough power.  Our current bookshelf speakers would be fine with just about any integrated, but when we later upgrade to some type of larger floorstanders, I wonder if the B100 would be able to provide enough juice.  We can't help but wonder, would it be better for us to just buy a 4B-SST amplifier and try to match a preamp?

If cost and space are a consideration when considering a 4BSST base, I do think the B100 has plenty of get up and go for most modern speakers and is a great value.

I currently use Monitor Audio GR10s on the Dynaudio Stand 2. The GR10s metal tweeter is not problem for the Bryston's extension up top. They play loud and stay clean. Quite a refined sounding amp. It sounds big. Source is a musical Rotel 1072 with Maple Audio Works Ambiance ICs. Simple Kimber 4TC for speaker cables. I also run a set of HGA Silver IC between the Main out/in with good effect.

I will most likely try a set or Merlins soon and would not hesitate to use the amp with a larger floorstander such as in your case. The B100 would make most people quite happy with the majority of speakers out there under 4K in my opinion.

James, in the latest review (from England) of the B100-SST posted on the bryston webpage, it claims that the DAC is now standard and not optional with the B100.  Is this true?

Also, in most of the literature I see on the B100-SST, it claims that 4-ohm output is 180 watts, and then (on the same page!) claims it is 200 watts.  I know this is getting picky - but which is correct please?

HI,

The DAC is an option --- the reviewer was incorrect on that point.
It is rated at 180 into 4.
