Headphone Amp as Pre-Amp?
« on: 29 Jul 2005, 06:44 pm »
Hi guys,

I am starting off in building my first (real) stereo rig, and was wondering if using a headphone amplifier as a pre-amplifier would be considered anything normal? I ask because I found a very nice power amp that is a bit over my budget, which wouldn't allow for me to get a pre-amp with it -- if I used the headphone amplifier as a replacement for a month, would it be a good remedy?

If not, I suppose I will just get the integrated amplifier. I just lost the battle for a Jolida 502B with 4 different pairs of tubes for 800 bucks (doh!)

Thanks in advance guys!

Most headphone amps have integrated passive preamps I think, but few have preamp outs.
