Could You do any worse than this?

Ok guys, here is a challenge for you. Can you do any worse than this system?

SDAT E70  speakers $79.95 from Overstock.com

Insignia/bestbuy 2 channel receiver $104.99 From BestBuy

NexxTech DP3222 Slimline DVD Player $29.87 from Walmart

Total price $214.81

Can anyone do worse than this? The rules are that the components must be current and brand new. One box systems are not allowed(You must have a receiver/amp, cd/dvd player and speakers. Bose systems are disqualified from the running. No white van speakers!

Good luck.

(disclaimer: I don't own or have not heard the system above. Who knows, it may sound decent. The perception of it however is one of a truly aweful system)

Bzzzt! Sorry, but the use of a Sherwood receiver would undoubtedly make this system sound better than the baseline Dennis proposed.

But the goal is to do worse, not better.   8) [/i]

Thanks Dan for clarifying. The goal is to create a seperates system that you wouldn't wish on your worst enemy. I have to agree with Dan that the Sherwood is too high quality.

Look, this is all a waste of time. I can beat anything any of you put up with 2 names. You minght want to prepare yourselves, this is going to be pretty ugly! :bomb:

Soundcraftsman and GFX.

To protect the innocent and those with sensitive eyes or weak stomachs, I've posted the names in white. If you absolutely must see them more clearly, remember that you were warned and don't blame me for any ill effects! :violin:

This contest is now over.  :jester:

Ok now you've crossed the line. :nono:   My first forray into audiophiledom if you will consisted of a Soundcraftsman pcr 800 (phase control regulation) amp that I purchased back in 1984 at Crazy eddies.  Real state of the art stuff in it's day.   Anyone old enough and  living in the N.Y N.J metropolitan area surely remebers Crazy eddies "His prices were insane"  I still have the amp and would never sell it   All kidding around aside the amp really doesn't sound too bad and is probably a step up from the Layayette - Criterion stuff being sold around the same time.

But these days Soundcraftsman is what you find on the bottom shelf at the K-Mart or Jupiter Outlet store and the Big Red Barn Flea Market.

I thought that was 'Soundesign'.  I owned something by that name from Kmart... Also I had some 'GPX' crap, a Lloyd's 3-in-1, and plenty of other junk along the way.

If I ever have kids, I think I'll buy them 2nd hand pro audio.... Plays loud and is durable.... and is nice enough to actually WANT to take care of...

As to the original topic, I came across a complete component setup of 'Coby' branded gear.  The DVD player was $30, the receiver was maybe $100? ... and this was at a 'Hechts' department store... kind of like a Macy's if you know them... Anyway, real junk..  I thought of this thread when I saw it but, no speakers... So, I'll just suggest a pair of  'ebay specials'...

Yeah, baby!

I did some searching on 'Coby' and found they make all sorts of things...
So, not to exclude our headphone fanatics, look no farther than 'Fingerhut.com'... You'll find the perfect setup!

I think I'm going to bid on one of these Insignia receivers. They are going for as little as $11-$21 on ebay and there seems to be a never ending supply of them(which really isn't a good sign). You seem to get a lot of amp for the money. The receiver has 100 watts per channel pre out main in jacks and 5 way binding post and a torrodial power supply.  The Insignia actually looks very similiar to the Marantz sr4320.

Marriage and children have plumeted me into the depths of audio loserville.
