Blackgate Power Supply ByPass Caps

I have just completed the + upgrade to my 100N.(starting to "run in")
I had 4 X 100v, 100uf Blackgates that have now been replaced with the upgrade and have them lying around.
I previously tried bypassing the circuit boards power supplies + ,ground,- with some large high voltage 47uf Polyprop caps, but was not pleased with the results(seem to detract from the bass). Could the Blackgates be of any benefit (as power supply bypass caps)to the high frequencies/transient response etc without any of the negatives I previously experienced with the Poly's? I have read in the past that Poly's are supposed to be the best things to use in this application.
I would appreciate anyone's personal experiences.

Willie,
I have bypass the power caps with some replaced 47 uF 35V Hitanos, must have been from the GK-1R, with good results but this was for a lower power Aksa (25). Highs were clearer with less surrounding noise.

Add em 4 sure if ur not using them; but I'll bet u get a better sonic flavor adding 4 x Hitano EXR 1Kuf 63v to the existing 4 x 4.7Kuf already in ur 55....this is a useful addition to the power supply & negates the need for over-priced subs for the originals. A 0.1uf or 0.01uf good qual styrene or polyprop. by-pass on each of the 4 PS caps is also good for ur HF & I'll wager that in a dble blind listening test with all else equal, none of us audiophools could spot the difference in favor of yer ridiculously priced marketing caps!!

Ah!! ... its a 100 .... make that 8x 1Kuf EXR's or Panasonics or any good qual, low Z cap. Hugh uses the Hitano EXR's in the GK-1, and Ive used them in my 55, cdp's, R2R, etc etc ....vg cap & cheap.

I may as well just solder some magnet wire to the 4 X 100v, 100uf FK Blackgates, connect them up to the boards and give them a try, but I might wait until the new components have "burned in" a bit - at the moment I can't tell much diff to the "N" version(only been running 3 hrs), but anticipate improvement as reported by others in the forum.

G'day Rhythm Willie,
I've just been informed that I'm to be sent to the field as "Airborne System Maintainer" for a month leaving on 9th July. 4 weeks in sunny Cairns in lieu of freezing my butt off here in Adelaide in mid winter - I guess I'll cope.
Do you want to borrow the GK-1 AND/OR the 55N+ for the 4 weeks I'm away? Give me a buzz.
Cheers,
Ginger

Ginger - I would love to borrow the GK1 Ginger modded +++++, before committing the $ to purchase the kit as on CD's I am curently getting very good sound from running the mono 100N+ amps straight from the Sony XA7 ES CDP(very short speaker leads).
55N+ - mmmm tempting- my Vaf I-93's are triwired - would be good to try biamping with the 2 outputs of the GK1.
Thanks a lot for your kind offer, I will PM.

I attached the spare 4 X Blackgate FK 100v, 100uf caps last night, checked voltages etc & tried them. Noticed an immediate improvement even before the amp warmed up.
She who shall be obeyed however cut my testing short by demanding the ceasing of music as she was going to bed early.
Anyway, I had heard enough to go back to the dining table & install/mount them permanently.
I will report differences in more detail later as the plus mod on the 100n's have only had a few hours running in so far.
PS - Ginger - did you receive the PM - I will try ringing you tonight.

Dennis,
No I haven't seen any PM. I did a full run over the GK-1 last night to make sure its all up to scratch and ready to go. I ditched a mod I'd added to the output stage which was actually making it worse and not better. Call this evening (Wednesday) after 6 and I should be home.
Cheers,
Ginger
