I am curious, how does the SP1.7 compared to the TAG AV32 in 2ch bypass mode?

I'll be interested to hear Caleb's comment on that. My own experience (based on demos only) was that the bypass in Tag processors is simply dreadful in comparison with Bryston - far and away the worst feature of the processor. However, the quality of the sound using the processor's DACs was sufficiently good that (even without the enormous added benefits of room EQ) you probably wouldn't want to use the bypass much anyway (unless you got heavily into DVD-Audio or SACD).

I'm afraid that I can't give you a direct answer, save to say that the TAG unit's 5.1 bypass is ony what I consider "reasonable" so it would not bedifficult for the Bryston to outclass it.

Main thing for me is the room EQ.
