B-100 problems.

I'm am thoroughly enjoying my new B-100, but I had a little problem the other day. There were some storms in the area and the power was flickering slightly. You could see the lights dim slightly for a short period of time. I found that the B-100 shut itself off several times (power light goes red - no flashing). Each time, it would not respond to the remote or the front panel. Only way to fix was to pull the power cord and then replace. This happened several times that day, but not since. Is this normal, or something I should be concerned about and a sign of potential problems.

HI,

If there was a storm it may have upset the software in the B100. Rebooting it by turning it off reset the software.

In response to the post below,

When the line voltage of the B100 drops below a certain level, (too low for proper power supply regulation),
it will shut itself down.
This is done intentionally to prevent brown-out effects like software lock-up etc,
and even premature failure of some electronic components.

The only way to recover from a brown-out is unplugging the power cord.

HI:

I'd love to hear any first impressions on the B100. I auditioned it (the DA model) with the new B&W 803S's and was really impressed...impressed enough to put one on order. But that was close to 10 weeks ago now and I'm still waiting...
I'm hoping very much the long wait will be worth it!! Any comments from a new proud owner?

Unfortunately, I have not had time to do any critical listening yet, but I must say, it's significantly better than the NAD integrated amp it replaced. The thing that jumped out the most for me is the detail of cymbals and hi-hat of the drum kit. You can actually hear nuances in the high end of the music. Bottom end is also a bit tighter.

FYI - I'm powering Paradigm Signature S2's in a relatively large room, without a sub. I have the DAC option, using a Pioneer Elite DVD player as a transport.

My unit was #71 off the line.

I'd like to revisit this discussion since I think I'm having problems with my B100.

I am having this happen almost all the time lately. I reset by pulling power cord and then it shuts itself off after 5 minutes, sometimes less, sometimes almost immediately upon receiving a signal. I've heard that voltage is lower now due to increased summer power consumption but the product is not usable as-is. I am not having any problems with any other electronic component I own. (lots)

Any ideas? Is perhaps the threshold set a little too high? Can this be tweaked through software?

The threshold can not be set with software.
Sounds like we should get your B100 back here for a look.

I am in Aurora, Ontario.
I did think of something... I happen to have a UPS and a server running in the basement and it tracks line voltage.
Here's what it logged for the last several hours.

This looks awful. Would this explain things?

Hi Markus,

Your line voltage is very low.
The setting on the B100 is approx 105 volts.
We can lower it to 100 volts but the downside is lower power output.
