Where's the stuff for those of us with less than $5000 to spend on a system?  $5000 for an entire system is the neighborhood most of us live.  About the cheapest I could have put a system together for from their recommendations would be $10,000.

Expensive stuff should (but rarely IMO) sound good.  It shouldn't be a newsflash or require a rocket scientist to pick good sounding stuff out the the price ranges shown.  What service does this listing provide to the average audiophile?

Here's an example for a compact, budget, bang for the buck system:

Red Wine Audio Clari-T 6 wpc integrated battery powered amp..........$500
Omega Speakers Mini-ME (package pricing with the Clari-T)..............$288
BADA HD22 CD player................................. ................................. $579

Throw in $200 for cabling and a $30 Ikea nightstand for a "rack" and be done for under $1700.  Add $500 for a powered sub and sub option on the amp.  This should provide a seriously good sound IMO.

You could spend almost 10,000 for a pair of interconnects and a pair of speaker cables!  Egad!  You're right -- most of this stuff is priced for open heart surgeons, workers at Google prior to the time Google went public, and partners in NYC law firms.  How many people can afford $8,000 DACs?

Guys,

While I understand that people can't afford some of the items on the list, how about you discuss it in your own thread elsewhere and keep this one to talking about the products that won the awards?

Thanks,

George

i know this might not mean much coming from a dealer of one of the products that got a award, but i do think that the april music products offer very good value and sound for what you get.

also these prices are retail pricing and their is always a little room for you know.

thanks.

They have been around for over 6 years (pretty long for an internet review site).

I like the Stello transport/dac and Hyperion speakers that won awards- and I don't even own them!  How's that for unbiased support??

I don't think that you neccessarily have to own a piece of equipment to realize that it is great....that is what demo's are for! :D FYI-I have heard both products and do concur.
