   To Sir with Love, the Final scene makes me tear up. A 1967 movie were Sidney Poitier take a job as a teacher in school of student trouble maker rejects from other schools. Also I recall tearing up watching Forest Gump though I tried hard not too.

I remember tearing up at a movie, and who I with when it happened, but after a full day of trying to remember what movie or movies it happened at I admit that my memory isn't up to it.  No clue.

FRM said it out loud. Sure, enjoy the movie, but don't cry about it. The same is true for sports. Some guys get too emotionally invested in a game, sports franchise, and/or an athlete. Kinda silly. It's just a form of entertainment.

Interesting.  Have you ever cried at a piece of music?  And is that "OK" to cry at, but a movie is not?  Or, do you think no one should cry, ever, regardless of the art form?

If you don't cry with a heart rendering story (or great music) , well........   
There are recordings that always bring a tear or goosebumps (my fav. Rachmaninoff).  Watching "Schindler's List" leaves me sobbing.  Some movies and stories should hurt.

It's not "wrong" to cry while listening to music or watching a movie, per se, because it's socially acceptable. However, the question is: who is in control of your emotions? Film promoters love to hear moviegoers say: "That was a good movie; it made me cry." So when FRM said we should avoid emotional manipulation, he's not wrong. I'm not saying one should never cry, because it serves a purpose when appropriate, but crying while watching a movie or listening to music usually isn't one of them. Of course, some people look forward to crying during a movie, especially women. Is it cathartic? Maybe, but a short-term release of tension isn't therapeutic. 

OK, let's get back to the show... the OP asked a good question. No one mentioned The Notebook yet, so I will. That one almost got me...

Yeah, the positive emotions. Why create art to intentionally make people feel sad, angry, suicidal, or anything other than uplifting, healthy expressions? That's why art should be regulated via cultural acceptance. For instance, some hip hop songs denigrated women, promoted drug use and violence, etc. Many radio stations refused to play them, and rightfully so. That kind of content sells in movies and music, but that doesn't justify creating it.
