What turntable and cartridge do you guys use? I like my turntable, it's a classic Harman Kardon T55C with the AVA outboard power supply mod I bought in the mid-1980's and a Goldring G1042 cartridge. The preamp is a Hagerman Cornet2. All my vinyl is from the same era so everything works well together. But the sound is not state-of-the-art.

I have spent about $9,100 in my digital setup which includes music server, playback software, DAC and some very nice Hapa USB and RCA cables. The sound is a lot better than my vinyl playback ever was. If I digitized then I would have perfect 1980's sound with the familiar clicks and pops forever. Or I can go to Zia Records, buy the CD for $5, rip it and end up with better quality.

Actually, I haven't spun an album in 15 years. Even though my collection is over 1000 albums I got bored with the music. I have listened to these albums way too often in the last 60 years. I like new music and currently have 686 GB of music.

I did go through the process of copying my vinyl collection a long time ago. I copied my vinyl to cassette tapes to play in the car and in my wood shop. Everyone should do this at least once in their life to find out they never want to do that again.

I have a Schiit Sol and Benz Micro Zebra into Tubes4HiFi PH16. I can relate to the music boredom. My collection is far smaller at 350ish, and even with a wide range of genre and mood I can get a little restless. But on the days where I want to listen to that specific record, oh man it 's good.

There's just a few obscure bands I have on vinyl that don't have good downloads for and I hate 128mb mp3 so I'm forever curious on the process to digitize.

Hi Guys,

I have a Technics sl1200g turntable and using a goldring g1012 cartridge. The phono stage is a parks audio waxwing which is highly capable. It does remove some of the ticks and pops from the records and can also be used to digitise vinyl as well.

Rod,
Thank you for the recommendation. I was wondering about the Waxwing at one time. At $500 how do you like the sound quality? Have you compared it to other phono preamps?

My digital end is reference level.  However, when I upgraded my vinyl rig from a Thorens TD-145 TT, Vista Phono 2 preamp and Nagaoka MP-200 cartridge to a
$2300 Pr0-Ject Classic Evo TT, a $2200 Gold Note PH-10 phono preamp and a $1400 Shelter 501mkIII MC cartridge, my vinyl with good recordings sounds so much better than digital.  I listen to a lot more vinyl now.

My point with listing prices is that this it what it cost to better my digital in a significant way.
