New Member interested in DIY open baffle projects
« on: Yesterday at 11:53 pm »
Hi everyone,
I’m new to this site but, have been messing around with hifi for quite some time. I was bitten by the bug, as many of you have, in the late 1970s in high school then college.
Now that I’m retired, I have the time and patience to try my hand at building. I’m especially interested in open baffle diy speakers.
It looks like many of you have a lot of knowledge on this topic and I’m eager to learn.

On the Lii Song site linked above there is a image with the plans to an OB panel.
However I could prefer the Barrel shape on the Decware site.

Welcome to the AC,

I'm a retired DIY'er too.  You mentioned OB projects so I will suggest one, although it's so labor-intensive that no sane person would take it on.  A few of questionable sanity like myself have, though, and many people have told me it's the most spooky-real sounding speaker they've ever heard.

Anyway; have a look, and note that I freely share my drawings and build info with other DIY'ers:

Enjoy the AC!

The Zenith 49CZ.... 12 inch alnico are very good if you can find a pair.

Having owned the 852 and 903, I prefer the 903 because it has good bass on its own, both are a true 95 dB/w.

There are a lot of good almost fullrange vintage alnico drivers (Jensen P series is one) that can work well with some help on the top end.

If you want deep bass all will need help (even the F18).
