Mono switch and sound via AVA Transcendence 10 preamp

jedgar

I listened again recently to Cookin' with the Miles Davis Quintet. (1956 by RVG)  Prestige 7094, via the Orig Jazz Classics remastered CD (1987).  It does not say stereo or mono, though I assume it was mono when first released.  I listened closely and heard great sound stage.  Not as wide as typical for stereo recordings but it seemed much more alive than I expected, esp. on the vertical dimension.  I repeated and activated the mono switch on the preamp.  It was even better!  I suspect mind over matter is 90% of the explanation, but I come away from the experience with greater respect for mono recordings.  And a question - what happens when I select mono, are the two mono signals combined into one mono output or is one signal eliminated with the other fed into 2 outputs?

Mono is L + R for two-channel sources.
