Combining Low and High Pass Filters

Danny,
Please explain why overlapping filters are not being used in speaker designs.  For example, in a two-way design, the woofer could have a low pass with 12db roll off at say 1500hz and the tweeter a high pass roll off at say 1000hz.  Both speakers have 89db senstivity.

Well, the ideal response is for them to cross where they are each 6db down and sum flat. If they play on top of each other then it will cause a peaked area across that whole range.
