Hello all....it's good to be back
« on: 7 May 2026, 02:24 pm »
Real life got in the way of my, "high end" audio enjoyment for a number of years....moves, new grandkids, deaths, a lot travel etc.

Most of my questions and comments will center on my, "second system" which for various reasons I listen to more than my primary system.

My second system is MacBook or phone to Schiit Jotunheim 3 to Cary SLI-80 (long ago significantly modified) to Spendor S5e speakers and/or several 'phones.

My next move is to replace the old-school Tara labs interconnects (work great but at 2m are WAY too long), power cords (using bottom of the line stuff now) and speaker cables (using old school Monster flat cables and spades in shotgun bi-wire arrangement now).

Obviously my S5e Spendors are bi-wireable.

To my ear I've always thought interconnects and power cords made/make more difference than speaker cables.

I will probably go with unterminated wire for speaker cables........internal bi-wiring would be great too.
Thoughts on Duelund Dual DCA12GA?
Thoughts on Canare's O2 free cable...can't recall the part #

Thoughts on cheap but great 1/2 and 1 meter RCA to RCA interconnects?

Thoughts on cheap but great short power cords (1/2 meter) appreciated as well.

I love projects, have well above average hands and lots of tools so home assembly would be fine too.

Thanks all.,

Ed

Hey Ed,
For rca cables, check out Hapa Audio Ember cables. While not cheap like Blue Jeans, the performance is an amazing value for something just above entry level pricing. I've even had Jason make some custom sized .75m before.

As for power cords, best I've found for $ is GR Research B24, but you could also check with Triode Wire Labs here and see what they offer for your situation. Both are great value and really well built.

So if the Schiit/Cary setup is your backup system, what's your main rig like?

The OFC version of the Canare 4S11 speaker cable is labeled 4S11G. Performance Audio is the only place I've found that carries it.

Thank you. And yes 4S11G is it.

The primary rig is in a home that I rented out. The guy loves the stereo, he was once in a regionally well known band FWIIW, anyway, he was going to stay for 6mos. Three years later he's still there and happy. The system is a Chord Hugo 2 to BAT VK80i (2X) to Focal Kanta #2 speakers (4 total) and 4 REL subs in a very large room with a very high ceiling. Everyone says that can't be enough power etc. I was half afraid the guy who set it all up for me was crazy. It sounds awesome only faltering at stupid volumes. Beyond that it's arranged such that for serious listen only half amplification and speakers may be used.

In our current home the room my wife allows me to use for audio is space limited so a bigger set up is out.

ETA - researching Hapa Audio Ember right now. Thx!
