Philharmonic Audio newest speakers

Hi Guys,

I frequent Philharmonic Audio on a regular basis as I'd like to buy a pair of Dennis' speakers.  I'm probably a year or so from doing purchasing anything though.
I have really been checking out the BMR Towers and BMR bookshelf speakers as they both interest me. It looks like Dennis has a new upgraded version called Super BMR monitor which now uses an AMT tweeter and 2 x BMR midranges and the latest addition is the purifi 6.5 inch speaker.  Now this speaker really has my attention as I have a pair of Salk Sound Bepure 2 speakers and I really enjoy the purifi drivers in these speakers.

Dennis also have another new floorstander called the Cantabile using the same tweeter and midrange as the Super BMR's but using aluminium woofers.

Here's a link if your interested:

I'm only posting this as I really respect Dennis' speaker designs.

Cheers Rod

No better reason to post Rod.  Thank you.  Dennis deserves the plug and accolades and you won’t hear him tooting his own horn.

My first quality pair of speakers were/are the original BMR in Salk boxes.  Simply brilliant.

Not that I’ll be replacing anything any time soon but the Super BMR with Purifi woofers certainly have my attention also.  Interesting that Dennis moved onto MTM BMR/AMT from RAAL 64-10.  I’m also hoping he’s adopted what is more sustainable pricing.

Hello,

Which mid/bass driver does your Salk Sound BMR speakers use?  Interestingly, also, Dennis' move from the RAAL tweeter to the AMT tweeter. I'll alert Dennis to this thread and hopefully he can make comment if he has time.

Cheers Rod

Quite Likely Scan 8545.  That's what I had in a PE Square Box.

I know it’s a Scan Speak driver but couldn’t remember the specifics.  Courtesy of “The Wayback Machine”
( https://web.archive.org/), following is the BMR page from Philharmonic Audio website in Apr 2018 when I was researching.  Nice flashback  :D

As Carl suggested, the driver is a version of the 8545.

Between the time I ordered and Dennis began the build, Parts Express discontinued the boxes Dennis had been using.  I was a bit bummed at the time because I loved the curved cabinet aesthetic and knew nothing of Jim Salk.  How do you suppose Dennis handled this?  By offering me Salk boxes for the same price.  Check the page for Dennis’ humble pricing at the time.  We ended up splitting the difference but I still feel a bit guilty.

Hi,

I guess for a person like Dennis it's more about the customer satisfaction than making a profit! I'm really interested in his Super BMR monitors as they use the purifi driver.
