Classical and Jazz Becoming Less Complex?

Perhaps this explain why I’m attracted to classical movie scores.
The article does not go into any depth - only a very high level summary.  Perhaps the authors didn’t think the average reader would have the patience, capacity or appreciation for a complex explanation.

It must be difficult to compose something that is complex and will also hold the listener's attention in an age where everybody seems to want to just shuffle songs from one to the next to the next.  I have a problem at get-togethers when whoever is playing the music continually switches what is playing, often before the current tune has even ended.

A lot of people don't understand the concept of listening to an entire album in one sitting.  If they do, they sure don't practice it.

When I think back to some of the big movements that helped define cultures and eras - from baroque to bebop to disco to hip hop, I can't help but wonder how the music of our current time will be remembered.

As bits(bytes) and pieces, similar to advertisements perhaps.
