Are You Unconventional??

One thing I learned early in my audiophile journey was to disregard conventional wisdom. That means you gotta experiment, especially when it makes no sense.

Post the most unconventional thing you do that would make most audiophiles cringe. Here's mine -- a subwoofer sitting on a fireplace.

Listening to compressed K-pop streaming on an iphone sent via bluetooth to the stereo.
🤷🏼‍♂️🤦🏼‍♂️
My 10 yr old daughter thinks it sounds good.

Listening in a 10'lx12'w room rather than taking over the living room.
Spending more $ on a vinyl cartridge than I did on speakers.
Spending more $ on usb cable than I did on dac.
Gear on side of room, so mismatched lengths of speaker cable.

I definitely agree, find what works in your own situation whatever it takes.

Very nice room Early B. Love the speakers.. I had to think about your question for awhile.. I'm not an unconventional type guy by nature.. The only thing I can think of was my speaker cables are very long at a 22 foot pair.. I'm not sure if that qualifies as unconventional but thats all I got.

I started hell bent on spending a healthy budget but found that the less expensive the gear the more I seemed to enjoyed it.  Or maybe better said I didn’t enjoy the expensive stuff any more than the inexpensive.
A $500 close out 20 WPC Schiit Aegir 1, which does a lovely job driving my Sapphire M4’s, sits on the shelf formerly occupied by $5K 1200W mono blocks. After 2+ years of searching in vain for a tube pre that tripped my trigger I gave up and paired it with a new Freya+ that I’m happier with than I expected to be.  An eventual tube upgrade may not improve the sound significantly, but it will make me feel better - an inexpensive upgrade in my book.  Add a Schiit Lyr+ to satisfy a resurgent headphone interest and a Lokius to spice it all up some and I’m reasonably content.
Less is more, a rack full of Schiit, and dropping coin to simply feel better about the system may not be all that unconventional but it’s certainly not where I was expecting to take this.

Always admired the Englishman Peter W.Belt (1930-2017), a generous and unconventional audiophile and specialist in Morphic Resonance.
