Bryston BDP-2
« on: 16 Apr 2026, 12:54 pm »
Hello,
I'm new here, contacting you from Germany. I have some questions... I'm a proud owner of a BRYSTON BDP-2. I'd like to upgrade the inernal sound card. How and where can i purchase/obtain the IAD kit from Germany?
My second question... Is it possible to upgrade the RAM of the BDP-2? If 'yes' what module do i need and what's the max capacity?
Thanx
Joerg

Hi!

There is no appreciable difference to the IAD - guaranteed. I have had both versions side by side.

The motherboard in the BDP-2 already has a maximum amount of RAM onboard - 2048 MB to be exact. The chips are soldered to the board. Even if you were to desolder them and solder higher capacity ones, it is questionable whether the chipset would support them. Depending on the manufacturer of the chips, it could even make the system unstable. It'd be a lot of trouble for potentially even more trouble down the line.

Cheers - Antun

Hi Antun,
thanx for your valuable information. I really appreciate it. But i'm so very sorry to correct you... Soldered memory chips on the motherboard are used with the BDP-1. The BDP-2 uses a SO-DIMM module (2GB) which is quiet easily to be replaced (upgraded). Unfortunately, after an upgrade, i can nowhere see, how much RAM the system is recognising (BRYSTON help, please).
If i'm lucky, my dealer managed to get an IAD-kit for the BDP-2 still, from BRYSTON. Waiting for the final reply... Will keep You updated.
Best wishes
Joerg

Have you checked Manic Moose Disk Information to see the stats on your drive?  Also, have you investigated the Scratch Drive option which might help with a capacity bottleneck. (Pages 13 & 14 of Manic Moose Manual)

Hi again,
i figured it out, how to see how much RAM mem the system is recognizing or has installed... Just SSH the BDP and you can use Linux commands to explore the BRYSTON. I.e. 'free' to see the memory.

Hello Bryston community,
