My name is Jim Hussey. I’m a retired mechanical contractor from the San Francisco Bay Area.
Most of my life I have played pedal steel guitar and been fascinated with vintage guitar amplifiers and effects. Things like Leslie speakers and tube amps, tube pre amps, and tube based effects have always captured my interest.
Recently a friend’s father passed and left behind a lot of tube based audio gear. Among the components is what I believe is a home built preamplifier. It uses 2 Mullard EF86 Blackburn Pentodes, a Sylvania 5V4 Rectifier, a Hammond 270 CAX transformer, and 2 ELMA 24 step attenuators. I am hoping someone will recognize this and point me to a schematic or user manual?
Assuming the caps are OK, I would like to use this, but short of drawing my own schematic, there are no markings or indicators as to how it should be connected or used.
While searching this forum I found a gallery posting by “rhing” that shows a similar EF86 preamp connected to a Virtue Two amplifier. I am hoping “rhing” might be able to provide some info.
Many thanks
Jim
