My longtime friend Kat likes almost the same type of movies and streaming series I do but with one exception - I like the really weird action stuff, she doesn't. As an example, Kat didn't like "Good Luck, Have Fun, Don't Die" (no Zombeavers either) but surprised me by liking and recommending "War Machine" and "The Bluff."

The Christophers stars Ian Mckellen and Michaela Coel in a film about an ageing artist and a woman he hires as an assistant but has been secretly hired to complete/forge eight paintings known as The Christophers that would be worth millions after the artist's death.

The interaction between Ian and Michaela are stunning. Ian plays the ageing, irascible, reclusive, English painter Julian Sklar who was a major star of the British art scene in the Sixties and tells Lori he has painted nothing but shit in 30 years and nothing at all for 20. Julian tends to go on rants that are both true and mean and funny. Michela plays Lori Butler who takes these rants in stride.




The story has plenty of surprises, Lori motives are slowly revealed and go beyond just the money.

The Christophers is directed by Steven Soderbergh, known for last year's Black Bag , the Oceans trilogy, Traffic, Erin Brockovich, and Contagion to name just a few of his films.
