Sennheiser Consumer Division Going...Going...Gone?

Seems implausible but what might the future be for the consumer division?  Interesting comparison to Masimo / Sound United.
I'd been debating between a few cans including the HD800S.  I opted for a used pair of Meze Empyrean I but now wonder if that might not be the best move.

No!

I like their headphones. I don't know what else to buy.

It's not the end, they are just looking to sell it on.

Yep. Someone will get access to Senn's product line, if not the name, for a sale price.

Apparently, they couldn't handle the competition from the new brands.
His phones have always been overpriced, who can beat a $319 Ananda Nano.

Thanks for posting this Allen, I read the article yesterday and meant to post something about it but didn't get around to it.  The shorthand is that the Sennheiser family had sold off the consumer division to a hearing aid company, Sonova, about three years ago, who thought that selling headphones to young people would lead them to buying their hearing aids when they got older.  That didn't work, no surprise, and now they are selling the company again.  Daniel Sennheiser kept the commercial division including Nueman microphones and others that make a lot more money than the headphone division and they kept the name rights to Sennheiser that let Sonova use the name, but not own the rights.  Does the new buyer get the name?  No one knows right now.  The discontinued tag is an accounting term for tax purposes during the sale process, product is still shipping to stores.  But the future of the brand is still up in the air.  Although we love the brand, their market penetration is tiny compared to Bose and Apple (Beats).  The article is very well written and worth the click.

The Senn CEO decided take advantage of the Sonova buy offer, probably because there is no longer how sell dynamic headphones at German prices.
Even the Audeze LCD2-C is a better value than the HD800.
