This speaker illustrates why so many people fall in love with single driver speakers and probably takes it to a new level.

Yep, that is what they do.

Also, don't be afraid to try pulling them well out into the room.

Would there be an issue setting these on top of some OB Subs?

I have used mine sitting on top of my sealed Rythmik subs with no issues.

They’re up too high if the intent is to place them on top of Double Troubles. I tried them on some 28in stands I had and it was too high. For a normal chair/couch, they need to be on 24in stands.

I noticed that they tend to project sound up higher than you would think. When I watch movies the dialogue seems to come from the middle of my tv screen. That was when I had them sitting on top of my Rythmik subs which is very low. I didn’t have stands yet.

Duff138,
I have 3 ft behind the speakers and sit about 6 ft from them.

I have way too much stuff in my room. These speakers sound awesome near field.

I would be worried about the reflections of the bullies in the background.. maybe? I would definitely have a good A/B listening session after they are moved out of the way.

my dos centavos!

Unfortunately the Bullies weigh as much as a planet, so they have to stay where they are. I wish I had a bigger room but we have to live with the constraints that we have. Fortunately I don’t notice anything negatively affecting the sound. There is more room than the pictures suggest. The Bullys are three feet from the front wall and the Allies are five feet from the front wall.

And the reviews are starting to roll in!

Here's my setup:

The speakers are 9ft apart so couldn't get closer and keep both in the frame.  Before anyone says anything, that "brick" wall is all acoustic foam.  The bottom of the speakers are 23" from the floor which is perfect for ear level of the smaller drivers.  I haven't tried swapping the speakers so the small drivers are on the inside and don't know if there is any audio wisdom about that choice; input welcome.  You are also seeing some cat proofing: the screens on either side in back of the console and weighted mats over the cables.

The system is all streaming with Roon exclusively.  A Weiss DAC501 4ch (Mk II) => Orchard Audio monoblocs at 250watts into 8 ohms (Ganfet).  These are the ones with the torroidal transformers and 130,000 uF of capacitance.  They are sweet.  The Weiss acts as streamer, DAC, and preamp.  The speakers are, well, you know.... they are on 8" Rythmik powered woofers with high pass at 44hz so the dual KEF KC62 subs behind them can do their duty without too much overlap.  The room is open concept and larger side of moderate size.  I measure and generate convolution files with Focus Fidelity software. The stuff on the left side of the top shelf is for the TV: Roku, an equalizer, and an analog to digital converter since the Weiss doesn't have analog inputs.

I played the speakers for a solid week in the garage to make sure the drivers were sufficiently loosened up before sitting down with them.  Immediately, the spaciousness,  gentle clarity, and vivid vocals were evident when I did.  I had some difficulty with the bass though.  Blame it on the room I guess.  It was too strong and a bit boomy.  This is without the woofers and subs.  But once I let Focus Fidelity tune the frequency response and timing, it all fell into place.  They are special and I am even more pleased with them than I expected.  Imaging and sound stage are excellent.  I'm coming from full range Omega Super Alnico Monitors and these image even better.

All good, but only two niggles.  One is a single box of 72 pounds (one pound for each of my years!).  Two boxes, even strapped together for shipping, would make them more manageable for us older folks.  The second is no nameplate or badge!  Danny, any plans for having some made?  If not, I may have to get an engraver to make a couple of small, rectangular metal plates with GR Research on them to go below the larger driver.

Congratulations to Danny, Ron, and crew.  This is a major accomplishment.  I'd like to see Jay from Jay's Iyagi do a review of the Allie's.  It would make a good follow-up to his earlier review of the Encore's.

Cheers!  ......Pete

The LGK driver is intended to be on the inside to minimize reflections and get better imaging.

Nice setup! The cat proofing belongs in the "Unconventional" thread.

Probably can do away with screens now that she is 1 1/2 years. Originally, it was a bonded pair but her brother had serious medical issues and is gone.  When they were kittens together tearing around the house, behind the equipment was great hiding with lots of wires to play with!

I have a pair of recently adopted Maine Coons and my biggest fear is those giant monsters jumping on the speakers and knocking them off the stands. They love climbing.

Put these on top of your speakers to keep the giant monsters off them?

Isoacoustics OREA Indigo for vibration absorbtion.  I haven't compared performance with and without them for the Allies, but they have noticeably tightened up the bass with other speakers I have tried.

This looks good. I hope Danny sees this. A nameplate should be included on all non-DIY speakers. The cost is negligible. You can get custom-engraved nameplates on Etsy for as low as $5 each.

Yes.  I wanted copper to match the phase plug, but would have to search around for it.  This was done local and about $12 for the pair.
