Hi!
I’m not sure if this is allowed, so I apologize if it is not. My father was a very beloved member & moderator of this website. He went by TheChairGuy— I was hoping to hear from some people who knew him & could share anything about him & his interest in audio equipment with me. I know he was big into vinyls, & I recently started my own vinyl collection! I currently have 5 vinyls!

Welcome!
While I think highly of your Father and was involved in many conversations with him, I don't recall anything that stands out as extra-ordinary.
It's "been a while", and my memory isn't the greatest for such things. That being said, I do have nothing but respect for John.

Time flies, as they say. It's hard to imagine that's it's been 13 years since his passing.
I found the post where we gave respects, in case you're interested.
Peace.
Bob

Wow.  Your dad talked me through my first successful mounting of a cartridge.  He also helped me set up my first decent quality turntable, a JVC QL F6.  There have been lots of people here that have generously helped me along my vinyl journey, and your dad was one of the best.  If there is any thing that I can help you with as you begin your vinyl collection, never hesitate to  send me a PM   :thumb:

Greetings & A Hearty Welcome to AC  :thumb:  As Bob notes, how time flies. Your Dad was a special person, and exemplified the heart and soul of what I believe JohnR had in mind for this site. As S Clark notes he mentored many of us who enjoy vinyl, and was always gracious in sharing his experiences and knowledge. We never met, but did swap many PMs back in the day. I hope you enjoy your time here, and are able to connect with many who knew him better than I.  8)

John was a dear friend of mine and a highly respected member here.  He's the one who brought me here after a dust up at another site.  He's was one of those special people that you encounter in your life and never forget.  And I still have one of his fold up hand carts.  In audio he pioneered the use of plasticlay in the underside of the plinths of Japanese direct drive turntables, specifically higher end JVC tables, to deaden the ringing of their lightweight plastic construction.  It was revolutionary and I really think that it got some manufacturers thinking about using direct drive in their products.

Hi thechairkid,

Yeah, your Dad was a very cool dude.  You may wish to contact Admin to request access to your Dad's posting history.  Might make for some enlightening discoveries.  Be warned, he was a fairly prolific poster so it will be quite the rabbit hole.

Here's the link to all Johns post: https://www.audiocircle.com/index.php?action=profile;area=showposts;u=111
@TheChairKid, you "might" have to have a certain amount of posts to view it. I know there are restrictions to some things, like viewing the classified sections, so if that link doesn't work, check back after making a few more posts.

Also, if you want to be called by your real name, let us know.

And yea, your Dad had more than 8600 posts, mainly in the vinyl Circles.
Rock on man,
Bob

Thank you all for the warm welcomes & responses! I was able to go through the previous link to the post sending condolences, but as you said am unable to view his post history till I’ve made a few more posts; hopefully I’ll be able to see it soon. I happened to search up his name a few years ago & came across this website— It’s been so interesting discovering different aspects of his life that I previously had no knowledge of!
Y’all are welcome to call me Sen!

Others may correct me, but I think three post are needed to send PM's.   We are all hoping you become an active voice here.

I’ve been going through his post history periodically throughout the day— Sounds like he was incredibly influential here! It is amazing to me how similar we are despite me not knowing a whole lot about him till a few years ago. I love music, traveling, photography, cars, having knowledge on a vast range of topics & reviewing things just like he did. I’d also say I keep my life very busy in similar ways to him— Already got one college degree & am pursuing further schooling, working, traveling (as often as my job allows— leaving for two back to back trips within the next month & more to come). I definitely got my social predispositions from him as well, my mom was quite a bit shyer.

Not sure if there are any forums here for DJing but as it involves audio, I just bought a Pioneer DDJ400 & am super excited to tinker with it! Also— if there are any forums for cameras, I’ll definitely be lurking. Currently I have a Sony RX-100 (bit pricey for my first camera, $400, but it seemed like the most sensible & versatile digital camera as I don’t like anything super bulky for daily use) & an old Canon Powershot that I bought at an ewaste facility!
