OB Triple Threats and old Rap
« on: 7 Mar 2026, 04:14 am »
I was playing around tonight and came across some old rap music from back in the day (the 80's).  Sir Mix-a-Lot Posse' on broadway.  The recording isn't bad at all.  When I heard it on my system I  just started cracking up.  It sounded freakin good.  I have to admit it got cranked up.  I bet it  never sounded any better than it did until it was played through some OB Triple Threats.  The base was super low and tight.  You just can't beat the base on those monsters.

That's awesome Brandon. When I was testing a set of Triple Threat when building for a friend, I had Notorious B.I.G. on a few times. Best was when I had them at front end of garage blasting into the neighborhood and everyone was enjoying.  :thumb:

I'm sure it sounded awesome! I have three double troubles; I suppose that equates to a pair of triple threats. I rarely crank it up with 70's and 80's tunes, but when I do, the room transforms into a dance club.

I would love to hear the triple threats with a pair of LS9's.  I have an SMc Amplifier that can be sent in and turned into monoblocks.  SMc says 1 monoblock is rated at over 400watts per channel with tons of current.  Those monoblocks with triple threats and LS9's would be something to here.

Talking about bass extension!

I've experieced some serious bass in my lifetime, but the most "accurate bass reproduction" I've ever heard, was down to 16hz, delivered by this
Aeolian organ, at Longwood Gardens, Kennett Square, PA. The room accomodated 300 people in his house, I call a significant mansion. The concrete suport through out the structure was significant. Not only dealing with the 16Hz, but the shear power output, was nothing I've ever had the pleasure of experiencing. The acoustic's were exemplary. To make that organ now days would cost $11,000,000!

If anyone is ever in the PA. area, I highly recommend visiting Longwood Gardens, it' a beautiful mansion. Check out the other offerings, on the grounds. https://longwoodgardens.org/

I have Triple Threats and LS6's. I acquired the Triple Threats shortly before I had to take the LS6's out of service while I made some changes to the room. Still haven't had a chance to hear the two together.

There are times that I hear some music from that era that really cracks me up and I have to crank it up and laugh. Some of those artist were really good though. A few that come to mind is the Dazz Band - Let it Whip, the song Car Wash, Michael Jackson - Don't Stop 'Til You Get Enough, a few old Rick James songs, a couple of Tone Loc songs, etc
