one now has a Van Alstine omega3 440 amp, NHT 3.3 speakers, Gustard dac, Comet Turntable, Yamaha blueray player,
X570 ATX W11 PC, and Emotiva BasX Preamp.4K TV

The second one has: Fosi ZA3 amp, Von Schweikert V2 speakers, Emotiva BasX preamp, B550 ITX PC

I am over 80 and was a former navy electronics tech, studied engineering At Fairleigh Dickenson University in NJ and have worked for IBM, Xerox, Phillips Electronics etc.Mainly on computer systems and periferals.

I've now forgotten a lot more than I know but hope to both learn from and help others as best I can. I am not an audio tech and never repaired audio for a living but have built kits, designed test equipment, and repaired my own audio since I was 12.

Welcome Lewy5, it's not always jumping around here, but that's the fate of most audio sites these days. People will start noticing your post eventually. :icon_lol:

Welcome.

Did you spend any time at Philips Lab in Briarcliff Manor?

Yea I worked on both the 360 and the IBM 370 when I was going to college. It was mainly learning diagnostics.Learning how to wade your way through the racks of dtl or ttl logic boards and replacing the bad one. Yea I did a lot of cabling too.

No I didn't work at Briar Cliff Manor I worked for Philips Electronics in Mahwah, NJ : mainly as a field engineer on the central  multiplexing systems for the 11,500 New York city call boxes located centrally in each borough. They were huge old state machines with no diagnostics and through them the voice emergency calls were switched to fire or police dispatchers. I also worked on their  transceiver consoles and repaired all boards to component level.

I was a night Operator for the IBM 360 at my college, your post reminded me of that.

Welcome.  My dad was an EE.  Learned it in the Air Force in the 1950's.  He worked for IBM, Bell, Compaq.

I am a Van Alstine fan as well.

They were being replaced by a digital cable switch controlled by a primitive PC.
It was hard work four days on a extended holiday.
