NuPrime STA-9XG Anytime Soon?
« on: 25 Feb 2026, 08:29 pm »
Just wondering if the STA-9X will be getting the upgraded GaN power supply like the IDA-9 and the IA-9XG did...and if so, about when would that happen?

First of all, we are not claiming that our new ANC GaN PSU is better than a top tier linear power supply, as the one used in STA-9XG.
Until we have new breakthrough in GaN PSU, it has the most advantage in Powder Density. That's why this ANG GaN PSU is also appearing in IDA-9, Evolution STA-SE. IA-9XG has a unique feature of selectable sound characteristic that will benefit from the speed and power increase.
The Evolution Two-SE as a mono amp, have extreme RMS power of 600W @ 4 Ohms, replacing the linear PSU with GaN PSU offers no benefits. We would have to redesign the amp to increase the power beyond 600W, but that will likely make it sounds worst.  We can’t just change things arbitrarily.

STA-9X is designed to be bridgeable into mono amp - at 330W @ 8 & 4 Ohms (see this guide about Power and Impedance: https://nuprimeaudio.com/power-impedance/).  Replacing the excellent LPS in STA-9X with ANC GaN PSU will have benefit in stereo mode (but the price will go up), with diminishing or no benefit in mono mode since the bridged amp is unlikely to go much higher than 330W (this is very large for RMS power at such a small size device).   Therefore STA-9X at the current price is still affordable and no plan to upgrade.

Okay, that makes a lot of sense. :duh:

I asked because I planned on getting a second STA-9X to bridge with the first and wanted to make sure there wasn't going to be an updated model coming out. So, thank you for the detailed response.
