Bryston 7BSST3 power issue
« on: Today at 12:39 am »
Suddenly I'm having a weird issue with one 7B SST3.
Hoping somebody can help to sort it out and I don't have to send it in.
I first noticed this a few days ago when watching a movie. At the end of the movie I noticed the front led was out. The movie having a mono soundtrack I didn't notice.

Today I am playing a record. Both amps powered on and all was good. But with a couple of minutes left on side 1 the left speaker cut off and I noticed the amps front led was out again.
The amp is not overheating. It's barely warm to the touch.

The status led was red in the rear so the amp has power.
The circuit breaker had not tripped it was in the on position.

I unplugged it and plugged it back in a minute later.
Powered it on keeping an eye on the rear status light.
It flashed green and then was orange and then solid green and then a few seconds later just went out.
The front led though is green!

Normally the power status led in the back stays green when powered on.
That is the case currently with the other amp.

I thought I will try playing something. I played side 2 of my record and it played all the way through without any issues about 15 minutes.
I am playing a cd now it's been 10 minutes I have sound from both speakers but the rear status led on the left amp is still out.

Im going to let the cd play for a while and see if the amp eventually cuts out like it did before.

Does anyone know what might be going on here? Why might have the amp cut out powered off in two instances so far and what's with the rear power led?

Thanks

Anybody?

Main thing I'm concerned about is the left amp suddenly powering off.

I did leave a CD on repeat for 3 hours yesterday evening and it was all fine so I'm not sure why in the last few days the left amp powered off twice.

As for the rear power status LED I'm not sure if it's actually supposed to go of.
I was sure it's supposed to be green all the time when powered on.
I did see the right amp the LED was green for a couple of hours then it also went out.

Might glance at the manual:

Quote
The amplifier has a front panel LED indicator to
monitor the following conditions:
Unlit Amplifier not powered on (OFF
MODE)
* Red Channel is muted during power up
* Green Channel operation is normal
* Flashing Red Channel is clipping. Reduce input level!
* Orange Thermal protection mode
