Absolutely will. I’m just hoping to have something to share.
So far subtle differences are lost on me. I’m guessing if I don’t hear a difference between the stock tube and either 6SN7 then I’m unlikely to hear a difference between the 6SN7. Time will tell. If FedEx is true to their word the burn in starts Sat!
Unfortunately with the aggresive return of Mick's cancer he has stopped production of new preamps altogether. From now on it will be used only. At one time I owned both the Chardonnay and the more expensive Cabernet. In the end I preferred the sound of the "cheaper" model and sold the Cabernet to a friend. There are still a couple of small boutique builders building 6SN7 or 6SL7 preamps. Among them are Erhardt Audio, Aric Audio, LTA, Tubes4HiFi and the soon to be two Spatial models. These are the type of companies I prefer to deal with.
That is unfortunate. I’m sorry to hear that he’s ill. His amps were already pretty scarce and don’t last long when they do pop up.
In addition to Tubes4HiFi / Don Sachs DS2, I’ve also toyed with Cary Audio (they’re literally 10 minutes from me), Maple Tree, and Icon. There is definitely an appeal to the boutique builders.
In the end I couldn’t justify the additional cost and to be honest I’ve become a bit of a Schiit fan boy. I’ve been using a Lyr+ headphone amp as a pre for longer than I can remember and liking it.
