A/V4 Inspired Speaker Build

I've been using a pair of LGK 1.0s in my den, which gets used for moderate audio listening and video streaming. The LGKs have been performing admirably, but understandably light in the bass department. Given the room layout is not conducive to a traditional sub design, I began thinking about a tower arrangement like the CSS Slimline Bass Module.

At that point I remembered Danny once offered an A/V4, which was an integrated speaker/subwoofer combination. As luck would have it, I had a pair of A/V1s (my first GR Research build) and SW/PR-12As subwoofers that were no longer in use, which utilize the same drivers Danny incorporated in the A/V4s.

So my plan was to build a set of speakers based on the design of the A/V4s, but since I wanted to use the same network and tuning of the A/V1s and SW/PR-12A subs, scale the design to maintain the volumes of the original speaker designs. Using the plans for the A/V4s that Danny graciously provided me, I resized the volumetric dimensions to match the originals, and added more bracing, especially in the lower sub cavity to reduce resonance.

Pics below show the result, which were more challenging to build that I had anticipated. I haven't had a chance yet to do any critical listening, but based on the initial testing I've done in the shop, they sound promising. I've always enjoyed the A/V1s, and the design is basically faithful to the original plans, with the exception of the trapezoid shape due to the sloped bottom. I suspect the bass won't be as tight and defined as the originals, which used Danny's design that was built like a tank. Anyway, it was a fun build and I'm glad to be putting some of the early equipment back into use.

Very cool! And tastefully done.

They also look very stout, any idea what they weigh?
