BDP3 - do I need a scratch disk?
« on: 25 Jan 2026, 09:50 am »
I’ve just replaced my BDP1 with a BDP3.  I didn’t use the Bryston DB much on my 1 but plan to on the 3.
My understanding from back in the day is that a scratch disk is used to increase the storage available for managing the Bryston DB, and album art in particular.

My question is, is this still needed for the 3?  And if so and to consider the potential size of scratch disk needed, what sources does it apply to - just locally attached storage, or NAS as well or Qobuz and Tidal favourites too?  I also noted from previous BDP use that “BDP” art files seem to have been created in each album folder on my NAS after my BDP had scanned the NAS and wondered why this was and what it might have to do with the above?  Thanks.
