Omnia WR-2 Audio Streamer Frustration
« on: 24 Jan 2026, 05:20 am »
I bought an Omnia WR-2 a while back, and I've come to the conclusion that it's either defective or that I'm attempting to use it in a way it is not designed to be used.

I bought it thinking I could add it to my system to stream TIDAL and/or radio stations. Here's the system: WR-2 => Holo Audio Spring 3 KTE => amplifier => speakers. My cell phone's Omnia app recognizes the WR-2, but the Spring 3 and WR-2 absolutely refuse to communicate.

I've come to the conclusion that the WR-2 is not designed like other streamers....that it is designed to stream to powered speakers(?) and is not intended to be used in a 'regular' home audio system.

There is no DAC in the WR-2, so it needs to be attached to my DAC in order to listen to the sreaming content. Why the hell isn't it working? The WR-2 lacks a DAC, correct?

I'm convinced I'm using the wrong product. I recently connected a competitor's streamer to my main system, and there was no problem.

As best I can tell from reading the WR-2 manual, the only outputs for the WR-2 are Analog, Bluetooth or WiFi. How are you attempting to establish a connection between the WR-2 and your Holo Audio Spring 3 KTE?

You're correct: the only ways to connect are via analog, Bluetooth or WiFi. As far as I understand, there is no way to connect it to my DAC. In a desperate attemp to make it work <and hoping that the rear panel was mislabelled>, I tried using the spidf (but it doesn't work - of course!).   :duh:

I bought the wrong product.  :duh:  :(

You want something like a WiiM Ultra or WiiM Pro Plus.

There's plenty of higher end units as well. This link gives you a flavor of the market.

Doublej,

Thank you for the link. There are so many choices and price levels available. My original plan was to keep it pretty simple and low budget as this is not for my main system. The WR-2 would work if I had powered speakers - perhaps in my bedroom <if I could persuade my wife...fantasy/forgettaboutit>.

There is a digital output on WR-2.  The USB-C 5V power supply has the Nuprime Digital Port spec.
https://nuprimeaudio.com/ufaqs/what-is-the-nuprime-digital-port/
Pin3 is the SPDIF signal.

I have to find out how to convert it into coaxial cable.

Oh, my head hurts. Okay. It seems one way to overcome this issue is to buy a DAC-9x or a EVO DAC2 to replace my Holo Spring3 KTE. [Then, I'd have to sell my Spring3 KTE.] I could then connect my WR-2 to either of the above Nuprime DACs.

Another option is to take a loss on my WR-2 and buy another brand's DAC-less streamer. I could also buy a ROON Nucleus One.

Anyone want to buy my Spring3 KTE?

If we can make a cable for the digital port, that will solve your problem.
