Thank you All for your input. You guys are amazing and you are changing my mind :) I am thinking now of trying servo subs - never thought I would come back to that option.

Is there a significant benefit of using two subs? I assume a double-trouble is sufficient for 13x17 room.

Dan, you really own 6 different speakers!! WOW You are lucky!

If ever given the opportunity, stereo subs are always beneficial. In my much smaller room, stereo subs really help with room modes and stereo separation. You'd be surprised how easy it is to hear sub placement and uneven room loading, even if crossing pretty low.

Stereo for OB subs.  This is the way.

I went to a local dealer and want to share my experience. I heard Franco Serblin floor standing speakers. Way out of my price range. They throw an amazing soundstage and clarity - probably the best I have ever heard. The room was large with very little acoustic treatment. Interestingly, I thought to myself, as much as I am impressed I would probably get tired of that sound fairly quickly. Next, I listened to Dynaudio floor standing speakers and they did not come even close to Franco Serblin in clarity and soundstage. However, I thought they were more pleasant to listen to. I came home and listen to the same recording on my system. What I realized is that my system is very muddy and makes sounds that are not on that recording. I also realized that my system sounds much closer to Dynaudio. The sound was much cleaner on Franco Serblin (I think much less distortion), it also reproduced that “flare” on top of every note in Keith Jarrett Köln performance, while both Dynaudio and my system missed it on most of the notes.

I don't think subwoofers are going to do what I am looking for. I think I will try X-Static.

seavan, what is the rest of your system running up the line from the Quad 57’s. Did you run the exact same system at the local dealer except the speakers?

At the dealer, they had a streaming system (not sure what exactly) with Accuphase class A amp. They used it for both Franco Serblin and Dynaudio. My system is very different - Sony SCD-1, Aesthetix Calypso preamp, DIY push-pull AB class 6B4G amp.

Okay, even the same system in a different room will not sound the same. In my opinion the room is a good 50% of what you hear.

Are you able to go back to the dealer with your speakers in toe?
Not sure how your dealers are, but me I like to test kit out in my own room with the rest of my kit and my dealers allow this, that is the only way you know how things perform in your environment with the rest of your kit.

toocool, I was thinking the same, however, the Dynaudio sounded much closer to my speakers on the same system in the same room with Francos. Dynaudios were cleaner than my system, but I would not say by much, and that may be due to the room or the rest of the system. If I had to make a decision on Dynaudio, that would worth to try them in my system in my room and I think the dealer will be open for that. However, I think it will be an incremental improvement at the best. I would love to try Francos in my room, but I cannot afford them. I never heard X-Static but I am leaning towards that decision because I trust Danny - he seems to be very knowledgeable and respected.

Which Franco Serblin speakers did you hear?

I would not spend your money on someone else's say so, no matter how knowledgeable they are. It's your money you are spending, you better make sure you like what you are buying, it's you that has to live with it. Trust your ears and no one else's.

Nice looking speaker.

I read / listen to what people say, I use that as a way of finding out about things I have not heard of before. I use that information as something worth seeking out and trying out, but when it comes to something I may want to buy. I will go out and listen to it and if I am interested, the next step is having it at home for a proper listen over a weekend or week if the dealer can spare it. My ears are the only thing that will make me part with my money.

In my early days, I have read reviews and bought on that strength, only to think what the hell were they talking about. I only made that mistake once.

By the way, I would get your speakers to the dealers and try it out there.

Thank you for the photo. It helps to see them in a similar size room.
