Bryston 270 amplifier
« on: 27 Dec 2025, 12:50 am »
Hey guys. I just picked up one of these as a curiosity for literally $40.00.
I have no real use for it in my current  audio system, but thought it looked cool just the same same!
Serial number is : 270100.
I haven't been able to find any pictures of the insides yet. Does anyone happen to have some?

    • Never go to a psychiatrist, adopt a straycat or dog. On the street they live only two years average.

Its a Mono version of the 3B, so search for 3B.

Correct, they may be somewhat different.
Do you have any photo from your amp ?

From the manual...
"GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Bryston's 270 power amplifier is a "70 VOLT" monaural version of the 2B and consists of a single amplifier
module - with a "42v power supply - which can deliver 65 watts into 8 ohms (120 watts into 4 ) via the
DIRECT output or into 60 watts via the 70 VOLT output transformer."

......

So should be similar to the original 2B..but half only.  :thumb:

Thankyou Rob. The amp based on the 3B is the 370.

It doesn't look anything like a 3B inside.I'm assuming the transformer is for the 70 volts

Can anyone give me an approximate date of production?
I'm thinking 1991-92.
It has the old "Rexdale " address on the back pannel. I believe that Bryston moved to the Peterborough facility about 1993,so this was made previously.

Interesting..looks like someone did  a mod, maybe Bryston?..multiple transformers...
The original would be the big square one (from the photo not sure it's even still wired)....the toroidal transformer that you see didn't come into much later with revisions on the 2BLP...not too sure what the little one next to it is for???

I'd say the this amp had a full makeover as it also has a 2BLP board (or could be that the same board was used on the last versions of the 270) besides the updated toroidal transformer, making it equivalent to the latest  2BLP,  the original is maybe from the early 80s.

Here's the later version of the 2BLP.
