Omega Loudspeakers vs Pearl Accoustics
« on: Today at 12:57 am »
Hi,

I got an unexpected bonus coming to me and my wife said I could buy some forever speakers. I spent the last few weeks looking around and trying to buy American. This led me down many rabbit holes and I discovered Omega Loudspeakers. I then did some research on single driver speakers but there is not a lot out there owner wise. So I'm interested in Super Alnico High Output XRS. I assume it's just single driver goodness plus betterer. If this is not right and one of the single drivers is better please let me know.

Now there were several videos on Pearl Accoustics Model One. Which sounded mostly very gushing. It's also twice as much and made in Europe(which I would rather buy than some mass produced China stuff). Does anyone know how the Omega compares?

I'm looking for speakers I can enjoy the next few decades. Any input on these would be tremendously appreciated.

If you have the Omega 6.5 or Alpair 10.3 drivers you could try the Frugal Horn XL which have a strong bass performance.
Anyway try to stay away from Ferrite drivers and get Alnicos drivers.

Besides the premium price plus €8000 the Pearl Acoustics Model One use Alpair drivers with cheap Ferrite magnets not Alnico as the Omegas.

Unfortunately I cannot build anything as I'm in an apartment. Just trying to figure which floor standing model is for me!

Any wood worker in your city?
Check with Dave for pre-assembled flat packs.

A side the Frugal, the choice is obvious the Omega cost half the Pearl price and will offer you much better sound with Alnico magnets.

Not to mention the Pearl is a company located in Belgium Euro Zone, you will have to pay a lot of cash with trump tariffs and other customs duties.

Is there any consensus on what the best floor standing model from Omega is?

Different people will have different opinions.  There really is no “best”. Each model has its own particular strengths and weaknesses.

I would recommend if you are interested in these speakers, go and find them and have a listen for yourself. Ignore what others have to say, let your ears be the judge. You know what you like.

One last thing, you get what you pay for.

I had the SAM and upgraded to the SAM-HO.  I strongly recommend the HO if you are going with Omega.  While everything else in my system has changed over time, I have kept the Omegas going on 8 years now (from the initial SAM purchase).  The HO has greater sensitivity, greater bass, and fuller sound with more ease.  I've not heard the Pearl's but they do have positive reviews.  Totally different approach with smaller driver but augmented with transmission line design.  Also twice the price.

It appears the Omega speaker mentioned is significantly more efficient for one. The Pearl Acoustics Model 1 is only 87 db efficient. The single 4.5" Mark Audio driver is well regarded, but it seems most of the design parameters go toward the transmission line cabinet. Not saying it isn't a sonic gem, but the price seems a bit outrageous at roughly $8500 for starters.
